The location of this property is perfect for ease of access to the town and beaches at La Jolla without needing to use a car, as long as you have no mobility issues. La Jolla is beautiful and beguiling and has great views because of the hills. We will return to the town, but not necessarily to this property for the following reasons:
The property itself is a good size. It is nice and bright upstairs, but a little gloomy in the ground floor rooms, partly because of the way the curtains have been hung so that they can't be fully pulled back.
I agree with the previous poster who said they had issues with the check-in and check-out information provided. We weren't given any until we asked for it a couple of days before we were due to arrive, and no check-out procedure was given - we had to guess what to do with the keys, etc.
There was no information provided about how to access the garage, which is at the back of the property and accessed from a lane behind the property using a fob which we randomly found inside the house - there was never space available to park at the front of the house in the ten days we were there.
There was only one set of keys provided - do people never go out separately? There was no information about how to access the property other than through the front door. There are two locked gates which would have been useful to be able to access the rear of the house without going through either the house or the garage.
A few days into our visit we were informed by email that the agent wanted to show a prospective client around the following day. Just as well I was checking my emails before I went to bed! We gave a time which was convenient to us (we didn't want strangers to have access to our property in the house, and I have health issues which mean I spend a lot of time resting in bed) but no-one turned up or had the courtesy to inform us or apologise - a waste of our vacation time, and a worry in case they accessed the house when we were out.
The house was tidy but not particularly clean when we arrived - hair in the shower tray and dust/hairs in just about every corner of every room. The dishwasher smelled so bad even after running that we ended up washing up everything by hand in the sink. Kitchen could do with upgrading.
The downstairs toilet kept randomly flushing itself (poltergist??) but I'm afraid we had formed a poor opinion of the management company by this time and did not want to waste any more of our vacation time or energy sorting it out.
Quite a few lightbulbs didn't work.
On a more positive note, there was a good supply of basics - toilet rolls, washing up liquid, etc and enough towels. There was excellent wi-fi. The gardens and patio area were well-maintained (a pleasant man arrived on both Mondays to maintain the outside areas).
In conclusion - the property itself is good but let down by management/housekeeping issues. A pity.
