Gotta say the small fee charged for access to the cave was well worth it, particularly with our 5 and 8-year old grandchildren aboard for the adventure. The rickety staircase leading from the shell shop down 145 steps through the narrow shute carved from the bluff served to fire up the kids' vivid imaginations. Coming out at the base of the stairway onto the small wooden platform had them convinced that pirates had to be nearby! Add to that, the shape of the natural cut out to the ocean looks like a pirate! The stairway isn't for sissies, a long hike down and longer trudge back up, but wow! what a spectacular view from the platform, with the breakers crashing onto our feet, with a view of sea lions surfing on the breakers at the cave's mouth. Pelicans swooping by, cormorants diving for fish. Really a memorable time!

We received passes to this attraction from our kayak tour as we were unable to kayak inside the caves when the surf was too high. At the bottom of the long slippery stairs is a platform inside the cave. As we visited during a high surf the waves came up and onto the platform. We had fun seeing who could avoid the waves and not get wet. Not a must see but take a look if you are in the area.

It's expensive, it's unique, it's short, but it's really cool! When else do you get to go in a narrow, really long, dark tunnel going downward deep into the earth and *spoiler alert* come out into a huge cave with waves crashing in it? Take your visiting friends and family

Cute gift shop and great place to take pictures. A little pricy for the 20-minutes we spent there as they charged admission for our family of five.

Just below the bustle of La Jolla Village is the great Sunny Jim cave. A unique perspective of the cove from this vantage point. Really miss the Shell Shop that used to be there.
