Recommended length of visit: <1 hour
Owner description: The Cave Store offers a variety of merchandise including handmade jewelry, towels, snorkel gear, postcards, magnets, shells, and bottled drinks and ice cream. The most exciting part of the Cave Store, however, is the 145 step tunnel that leads to the Sunny Jim Sea Cave. Although there are rarely any sea lions or seals in the cave, the view is spectacular and it is a great adventure, particularly for kids.

This was a neat little find. My wife and I were walking around the La Jolla Cove area and came across this little shop by accident. I think we paid $4 each to check out the cave. Walking down the stairs is definitely tight, especially when you have people coming up the stairs too. I would not recommend it if you can't handle tight, enclosed spaces. It can also be slippery. But it's pretty cool once you get to the bottom. Life's natural beauty is amazing sometimes. We took some pretty cool photos too. The shop reminded us of many of the shops back home at the Jersey Shore (The real Jersey shore, not the garbage you see on MTV). It had a very beachy feel to it, and sold a lot of oceanic and beach related stuff. We enjoyed stopping in, and would recommend checking it out if your looking for something different to do in the La Jolla Cove area.

As we were looking for our kayaking place in La Jolla shores, we stopped here for directions. The gentleman was very helpful. We enjoyed the kayaking; we saw sea lions, dolphin, cormorants, and pelicans. We returned to La Jolla Cave and Shell Shop to see the hand-dug cave to the caves. This was so interesting. There are a lot of slippery stairs, but it was worth it.

You pay a small fee and go down a very narrow, damp and slippery staircase to the caves below. It is a fun little side trip, however, if you have a fear of tight spaces or are not too steady on your feet, I would suggest skipping this one. I actually slipped on the lime and ruptured a disc. This is at your own risk so beware. Don't wear rubber clip clops on these steps, as they are slippery. This all depends on the person doing the climbing as to how enjoyable it is!

The shop was ok; reasonably priced but a little on the beaten side.
But you go down some stairs from the shop into the back of a cave. The opening of the cave looks just like a mans head. The view inbetween is of crashing blue waves, the shores around the bay and normally blue sky. Very much worth stopping by. Go in the morning for good photos as you look slightly west and later in day the suns glare may interfere. The best value thing we did in la jolla. Another reason to go earlyish is that parking is hard to find in la jolla

This Sea Shell shop has such a unique collection of jewlery, sea shells, collector items, and gifts at a surprisingly reasonable price. Just around the corner and down the hill from the Living Room Coffee shop, it is worth dropping by on your walk down to the ocean, very sweet shop and friendly customer service too! I highly recommend this atrraction for La Jolla!
