As many have already said, the service is great, the food in most cases is very good, but the place is falling apart. There's a sign in the women's room that warns the floor may be wet. Well, yeah, because the plumbing leaks unabatedly. You can only do so much with duct tape. Get a plumber in there!! And an HVAC guy, too. We were there on a very warm day and the AC did not appear to be functioning. The poor wait staff were literally dripping. In the dining room the floors are worn through from chairs legs, the tables wobble--the whole place needs serious work. But the portions are large, and the prices (for La Jolla) are fairly reasonable. Our lox platter for one was very generous with 4 large, excellent, plump slices of lox--but yesterday's bagel. The cold borscht soup was very tasty, but had virtually no beets in it. The side salad was entrée size and very fresh. There are few Jewish delis in San Diego, so I think Elijah's is leveraging their uniqueness, but after a while, even that won't matter if they don't put some money back into that place. I would have liked to have given them a higher rating, but cleanliness and consistency matter.
