Owner description: It was supposed to be a children's pool, but the harbor seals took over and it's a main tourist and local attraction. Great picture spot.

Just look from above, smelly and crowded, much nicer places to go than this spot just a moments walks away

“I heart The Jewel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2012 via mobile

There are sooo many reasons why La Jolla is "The Jewel"! The Children's Pool is a MUST see- not for what the name implies but for the amazing crescent of nature plunked down in the middle of the Coast.
The Pool originally a protected sea walled swimming spot for the kiddies circa 1930's and now (unfortunately) a redonculous chicken egg controversy over who rightfully belongs here is a beautiful place to see nature-(birds, crashing waves, squirrels, seals pupping)! Sillies if you want to swim somewhere nice safe (and clean) with the kids please go to the Cove, La Jolla Shores, Law Street in PB, South Mission etc. because this precious place is better suited to be up close with nature not bobbing around in Seal poopbowl with a several hundred pound Mamacita that can navigate like a Spy Submarine. Chat it up with the friendly Fish and Game Dude, check out the smashy waves as you walk the old crusty crescent, see the Lifeguards surf and swim report chalkboard, grab a frozen treat from Tammy's Ice Cream Truck, check out the locals spear fishing and pulling out Lobster (in season). It's Mainer heaven without the frozen tundra winter 24/7/365.

“Don't miss the seals”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2012

Worth a walk down to see the seals swim & play. My boys wanted to go back again & again. Plenty of room to roam around despite the crowds, too.

“Good beach for young kids”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2012

This is a protected area in La Jolla where young kids can play safely. It is quite limited for anyone older and the wall area made to isolate the beach smells. However, it is worth it if you have young children.
