“Unique, spectacular view of nature”
Reviewed April 11, 2012

The parking in this area is VERY tough, but patience is rewarded by this beautiful spot. It is lots of fun to wander around, looking down upon this crescent beach, watching the seals/sea lions basking in the sun, swimming about, a unique experience for all. The photos on this site are accurate; we bring all of our visitors here and everyone enjoys it. Don't miss it!

(Note: No food vendors at this spot, although many restaurants a few blocks away; also the onsite restrooms are pretty grungy, especially for such a spectacular spot).

“Harbor Seals!”
Reviewed April 11, 2012

Do not miss this wonderful place to visit La Jolla's harbor seals -- you are allowed to get very close to observe these hilarious, adorable, majestic animals. (Just don't tease, please.)

“visit in early spring to see the baby seals”
Reviewed April 10, 2012

This is a very relaxing spot to walk along and enjoy the ocean views. Right around the children's pool entrance, there are people selling shirts or giving out information about the seals, but other than that it is very natural and relaxing.

“Let's keep the seals at the Children's Pool!”
Reviewed April 7, 2012

The Children's Pool is a gorgeous little beach in La Jolla where seals like to come and relax and sleep at night. My parents once saw a baby seal being born on this beach, and in the spring you can see mommas and their pups laying down on the sand. You can see seals here any time of day, but every evening, numerous seals come to lay down on the beach to rest, and you can easily see more than 30 seals. This is such a wonderful experience - to see wild seals in their natural environment. You can see the seals from the walkway along the cliffs, as well as from the little jetty, where you can get a closer look.

Unfortunately for the past several years, there has been a huge controversy between the residents of La Jolla regarding whether the Children's Pool should be re-opened to swimmers. In the past, the wall was built to protect this beach from waves so that kids could swim here. Now that La Jolla Cove gets very packed in the summer, some residents want to open this beach up for swimmers - which means that the seals will most likely go away. I think that being able to see the seals up close on the beach is really special. La Jolla Shores Beach is a huge long stretch of sand for families to hang out in, and aside from the Cove, there is Wind and Sea Beach in La Jolla. Why can't we keep one small cove aside for the seals? I am sure that tourists and residents alike enjoy coming to see the seals. If you are a visitor to La Jolla - please let people know how much you liked seeing the seals! Hopefully we can convince La Jollians that this beach is special, and that we should keep it for the seals!

“Love the seals!”
Reviewed April 3, 2012

It was really fun to just sit and watch all the seals hanging out on the beach. They are funny little animals to watch and captivated us for a while. The locals really do keep an eye on the tourists here and don't let you cross the line to where the seals hang out, which is nice. They need to feel safe or they will find somewhere else to go. As an animal lover, I appreciated that a lot. A nice spot to have a seat, relax for a bit and enjoy the view and seal sounds!
