The glass window wall was fun and inventive. We had a good time with wandering about the sculpture garden. Nice collection.

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed August 10, 2012

I was impressed by the extent of this art museum and by the variety of exhibits. When I visited, the museum was hosting an exhibition of the work of John Valadez; there was a free guided tour available but also enough information provided next to the various paintings and photographs to understand and appreciate the work on display. I am amazed that other reviewers think $10 is a high admission price for this lovely art gallery - the ticket is good for 7 days at both the La Jolla and San Diego galleries, and anyone under 26 gets in free. The sculpture garden is great fun - look out for the yellow hose(!) and the setting is really beautiful. I spent a couple of hours looking around and you could easily spend longer if you stopped at the cafe and gift shop too.

“Went for music, not art”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

This is the venue for the La Jolla "Summerfest", a music festival with programs worth traveling to attend. The auditorium is intimate enough for chamber music and the scene is knowledgeable listeners in a casual setting.

“Check out the free sculpture garden with fun art and great ocean views”
Reviewed August 4, 2012

Haven't actually visited the paid exhibits, but have admired the sculpture garden and pieces on and around the museum property several times. As a result of a dispute with the community many years back about enclosing its grounds, the museum keeps the sculpture garden open to the public for free -- so check it out! Get to the garden area using a door straight back from the main entry, which leads to the back garden stairs. If you can't find it, just ask the person at the desk. Worth the quick walk through to see the few pieces and the beautiful ocean views from the terrace and lower levels of the garden area. There's even space to have a little lunch or snack while watching the ocean, if you're so inclined. Nice little side trip for a day at the beach.
