“Loved the location...a slice of paradise”
Reviewed March 10, 2009

Our stay at the Inn was a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Jenna was, as always, knowledgeable about the area and a great hostess. The breakfasts were excellent without being fussy and the location is fantastic. Our room was immaculate and the bed was very comfortable. We look forward to returning again.

The room was attractive and clean, but in need of some TLC. The wallpaper is peeling in the corners and the bathroom was not at all user friendly . All in all, though, a pleasant room. Unsecured wireless internet was spotty both in the room and outside in the courtyard.

Breakfast was really skimpy . . . serve yourself juice and coffee, and a staff-served hot entree. No fresh fruit, muffins, etc. that one would expect to supplement the small hot dish. The dining room was attractive and clean with lots of (impressively) dust-free decorations. There was no staff person in attendance to facilitate conversation among the guests so breakfast with strangers was a bit uncomfortable, especially in such close quarters.

The location is great although parking can be a problem as there is not enough off-street parking for all the rooms, and no off-street parking for larger vehicles (SUVs). In the summertime, parking must be a nightmare. The location, though, can't be beat--within walking distance to the water, great shops, foods, etc.

The really surprising and unfortunate aspect of this experience was the front desk person, Colleen. She was not at all friendly or helpful and in fact seemed a bit put-out that we were even there. Maybe she was just having a bad few days.

If the opportunity arose, we would return to San Diego and La Jolla, but would probably choose a different facility.

This was our first Bed & Breakfast adventure. Beautiful historic building with romantic charm, beautiful landscaping, and a very helpful staff. My wife and I enjoyed our Valentine's weekend stay in the Wind & Sea Room with a view of the Pacific Ocean and the daily sunset. We enjoyed reading the numerous diaries documenting the experiences of previous guests. The breakfasts were very tasty with an option for either a hot or cold breakfast. On-site parking is very limited (five spaces for small cars, none designated handicapped) and street parking was available but limited to two hours during the day (Monday-Saturday) and is virtually non-existent during services and other functions at the church next door. Overall a very pleasant experience! Many thanks to Jenna and her staff for their assistance in arranging several surprises for my wife of 25 years!

Although we only live one hour away we enjoy weekend get-aways and exploring new areas. The B&B Inn at La Jolla is a charming historic home across the street from the ocean and within easy walking distance to restaurants and shops in the beautiful village of La Jolla. We had a lovely 2nd floor room, The Cove, in the historic side of the inn. It's located on a corner and has windows looking onto the upstairs patio and from the side overlooking the grounds of the adjacent women's club garden which is a popular site for weddings. We were allowed to take a peak at several other rooms whose guests had not yet arrived and even the smallest room in the Inn was beautifully decorated and made good use of the space. The staff members we met were very cordial and knowledgeable about the area. As far as food I'd rate it a B-. They did set out cookies in the afternoon and had a full breakfast with 2 options - breakfast casserole or granola and fruit... Nice choices but nothing special. Although room rates are on the pricey side, we would definitely go back again.

The Holiday Room is large and well appointed, however, since it is on the first floor, facing the street and just outside the reception area and stairway, is very "public" and sometimes noisy (especially from the room directly above). We would stay in a 2nd floor room in future. A bit more attention to re-supplying the room is necessary, i.e. providing fire starters for the fireplace and fire wood and bottled water provided daily. Also, the room had a small clock/radio/cd player provided on the 2nd day of our three day stay, but the alarm couldn't be set and there were no cd's provided for the player. Parking was a challenge...small spaces on site and street parking restrictive, but not the fault of the B&B. The breakfasts were very good and the morning host was wonderful, she was cheerful, full of ideas for the La Jolla and San Diego area....a real asset to the B & B

Room was lovely; location great. Breakfast was extremely simple and nothing like described in travel books. Greeting was disappointing and desk person knew little about the area or how to get places. (Could not even tell me where the movie theaters were.) Aside from that, beautiful ambiance.

We were told that we had to reserve three nights, even though when I asked other guests, all of them had reserved one or two. We were not able to use third night and feel we should be reimbursed for one night. I have not received reply to my e-mail regarding this subject. If a reimbursement is made, then I would definitely recommend to a friend (see below).

We appreciate all and any feed back and constructive criticism as it is the only way that we can improve and maintain a high standard of excellence. On this occasion, the innkeeper who was on front desk the afternoon of arrival had obviously not been properly trained and truly fell short of our high standards of guest hospitality as did the breakfast . We apologize for our failure to meet expectations and to address these issues via e mail in a timely fashion. These issues are being addressed and will be corrected. In addition, it is the policy of our Inn that we have minimum stay requirements for weekends, holidays and special events. The 3 day minimum for the Valentine Weekend was put in place after some of the guests had already made their reservations ( 4 or 5 months out ) and it was also lifted just days prior to Valentine's Day as a last minute incentive to book the few remaining rooms. One or two guests may even have been staying only one night if at the last minute they were able to book a "Widow"- an open room night that has bookings on either side of it that meet the minimum stay requirements. We understand and can appreciate the guest's concerns and hope there is now clarity as to why there were some guests only booked for two nights and even one night instead of three.

While the food and general ambiance were very good, the building our room was in had a constant musty smell, probably due to mold. That was undoubtedly due to a significant roof leak in our room, and we assume other places in the building as well. In short, this is not a facility we would recommend.

We apologize for any inconvenience this leak may have caused our guests. We were not previously aware of this small leak which appeared for the first time during the unusually severe rainstorms on the last night of the guests stay. Upon leaving our guests brought it to our attention and we have since located and resolved the problem. They can be assured that there is no evidence of mold or mildew and there is presently no evidence of new leaks in the Inn. The unusual musty odor may have been present due to the fact that we are on the coast and it was raining a great deal with little time in between storms to dry out. Again we are sorry that their stay was less than expected.
