Stayed at the Scripps last week. Found by chance on internet after disasterous night in apt in Mission Beach (dont go there). Very helpful receptionist Maria, allowed to me view all available apts before choosing number 8 in the top right. One of 2 apts on top balcony but this one has no passing people traffic. No 7 vacant so we had top balcony to ourselves. Lovely apts and they have take on board earlier comments as carpets were being cleaned as we arrived. They let us put our cases in the room at 12 noon even though check in was not until 3pm. Nicely furnished, spotlessly clean..they have obviously spent money on the sliding double glazed windows and bathroom had clearly been recently updated (granite tops, new tiled). Agree kitchen was small and dated and in need of update but few people spend much time in kitchen on holiday anyway. We had to have kitchen due to dietary requirement (vegetarian) but we managed to cook lovely meals. Complimentary breakfast of cereal, pastries etc which we did not use but it is a nice extra. The most beautiful view all around of blue sea and only a stones throw from the beach. 2 or 3 minute walk to beach where seals live with their young...very special. La Jolla quite up market and not too many hotels. No traffic noise from road as in a previous review and we rarely encountered...Stayed at the Scripps last week. No traffic noise from road as in a previous review and we rarely encountered other vehicles when reversing out of drive so does not appear to be a busy road. Would only stay in La Jolla if visiting San Diego and would only stay in Scripps Inn...very peaceful. The only niggles we had were: no coathangers, no tin opener, no plug in kitchen sink (no dishwasher or bowl so difficult to do dishes)and only 2 mugs which were badly cracked and chipped. Minor things though, the rest more than made up for these.
