“Great scenery and challenging course”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

Great scenery and challenging course.

The North Course is more for the casual golfer or an experienced player that is looking to have a relaxing time. The South Course will eat you alive. It must be the reason the pros play here. The 13th Hole is my favorite design for a hole, but it's a Par 5 that lowers in elevation before rising up to a green surrounded by bunkers on a hill. It's like a bunker castle.

The beer cart girls are always around so you'll never go thirsty. The helicopters and jets flying out of Miramar provide a brief air-show break from your game but can get annoying when they are non-stop.

There are no real faults to Torrey Pines. Especially when it's $40 dollars to play the North Course on a weekday as a resident.

“Very Nice Public Course (South)”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

We showed up at 5:30 to get in line to be the first people off on the South Course. That worked very well. Some people are locals and are going off the North Course, some people like us were visitors and were going off the South Course.

“Worth checking off the list”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

Played the South course on a spare half day in San Diego enroute to Palm Springs. Wasn't the cheapest round I played this year, but course was in great shape and worth the effort to go play it. Very open layout with everything in front of you, challenging but very fair course.

I was a bit worried I would arrive to a line up of golfers waiting to play, but course was quiet -- despite it's reputation, it's still a local municipal course that likely suffers some cancellations when the weather isn't perfect. Arrived at 6:30am as a single on an overcast and slightly wet Fri morning in mid August, joined up with a twosome at 7am and was done just after 11am.

“Beautiful grounds”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

We didn't play golf when we stopped here but we did take a nice stroll around the grounds. The staff were very kind and encouraged us to take our time. We enjoyed lunch and a cocktail non the outdoor patio of the restaurant. They have a nice, large gift/pro shop that's affordable.

“A stunning day!”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

While this is a public course and the only way we were able to enjoy it as out-of-towners was to stay at the Lodge and book a tee time through them. It was so worth it! They keep you moving there, and while we were a twosome wedged between all foursomes, it did take 5 hours to play. Not that this was a negative! The course and the scenic views are just intoxicating. We never minded relaxing and looking around as we waited. And you do need to look around while you wait, because the course is slim and the holes pass each other so you always need to keep your head up! Seriously, the ocean backdrop was outstanding. The course was fun to play, was in reasonable to good condition, and we wish we had planned ahead to make a reservation to play both the north and south course both days. We'll just have to make another trip! The food and drinks at the Grill were fabulous and highly recommended as the 1st stop after your game.
