“Awesome Kayak Tour with Johnny Tsunami”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

Hubby and I took this company's '2-hour Kayak Tour of 7 Caves' during our Anniversary vacation in San Diego. We has only previously kayaked in rivers... Never the ocean! Wasn't sure what to expect, but here's the skinny....

> The "June Gloom" made La Jolla's temp feel like 50's when it was actually in the mid-60s. Warmer months (July through September) would be a better time to tour.

> How wet do you get ?? Well the rented wetsuits are already pre-dampened, the kayaks fill up to your hips, the humidity/ocean spray covers your body and there is a 40/60 chance that you'll tip over & get fully dunked in a frozen salty bath during the return to shore.

> Our tour guides were Johnny Tsunami & Carson; who are really half kayakers/half comedians. We had jokes (nonstop) that began during the paddling intro and didn't end until the final desperate paddles into shore.

> As for the Nature/Ecological side, we DID get to go inside one of the 7 caves (the only one that's safe), see a colony of sea lions up close, and get the names/background/explanation of the reefs/caves/La Jolla coves.

We'd recommend this tour (& company) to fun loving couples (in the tandem kayak), families, first time kayakers, or river/lake kayakers who want an intro to the ocean.

Only Bummer: We wanted to rent a tandem bike also, but when we called to reserve one, we were informed that they don't rent ANY tandems...Ever?.... But they advertised them on their website? (whaaaaaa?!)

Overall.... 5 stars for the tour, 4 stars for the equiptment, 5 stars for the Tour guides and -1 star for the false advertising.

“Two hour Kayak tour of the Seven Caves”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

This is a very good tour. We got to kayak to the
seven Caves in La Jolla, Ca. The waves were big, so we were not able to go in the caves, however, we were told that May is when waves are big, June, July, should be better. The guides were very helpful and pleasant. I would do this tour again. I went tandem with a friend, however single kayakers also had fun.

Such an awesome tour! Our guides were very funny as well as knowledgeable. You'd think they were both marine biologists. Very friendly staff in the store, and I loved their nice and clean restrooms. Best beach trip ever!!!

“Great Snorkelling Tour”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

Loved it! Our guide was terrific. Got our wetsuits and equipment. Walked to the beach and then backwards into the ocean. Found a ray and leopard sharks right away. Saw a Garabaldi fish. There are some waves and it's not easy to get out wearing fins, but we had a wonderful time and they were great to us!

“Girl Scouts try kayaying for the first time and love it!!”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

Took a group 10 Girl Scouts between 4th-6th grade and 5 adults on the 10 am, 2 hour kayak tour to the La Jola Caves on 5/11/13. We had a perfect day - not too hot or cold and surf was relatively calm. Water was nice and clear to see the ocean floor. Nick and Tyler were our guides and they were fantastic. They related well to the girls of this age group as well as the adults. We learned a lot of interesting information about the various habitats in the ocean, sea life, fault lines at the coast, the caves and how they were created and much more. We were able to kayak right up to a seal lion lounging in the water. Saw lots of girabaldi fish, a couple spiny lobsters, lots of birds and seal lions. We were able to go into the caves because the surf wasn't too rough. Our interaction with all of the staff there from the counter, to the equipment check in/out, the guides, the guys on the beach getting the girls safely past the surf and back into shore was excellent. The key when you are going as a big group is to contact them directly and speak to someone in charge who will accommodate your needs (i.e. needing a little extra help with girls that might be a bit fearful of the ocean, etc). Mike, the manager, did an excellent job ensuring that our group was well taken care of. As a result, our troop will be back for more kayaking and our sister Girl Scout troop will also be going. We did have one girl and one adult who were slightly queasy by the end of the tour, so when in doubt, take a little dramamine. Go kayaking and enjoy the beauty of being out in the ocean!!
