We loved th farm to table concept. The food was incredible, the staff so friendly. If we lived in la jolla it would be our favorite restaurant!

All the things one would need for a very lackluster dinner experience.

Tried Whisknladle out after much hype and anticipation thanks to a few friends who have raved about a prior experience. We arrived on time for our reservation and were promptly seated. We immediately placed our order for an appetizer (flatbread…I’ll get back to this later) and began reviewing the menu. Upon browsing the menu several sounded great with elaborate description and La Jolla prices. The details of the menu and associated cost left very lofty expectation of the meal to come. Feeling a little overwhelmed at the selections we asked our server for recommendations. He noted he hadn’t eaten many of the items so would be of little help. We were then left to fend for ourselves. In the meantime several other customers were seated to open tables surrounding ours. Our waiter returns a short while later to take our orders. We wait…wait….wait…wait… and wait some more. By now a full 40 minutes have passed and still no appetizer. The flatbread (although elaborately described) was nothing more than a ultra thin crust cheese pizza, which could not have taken any longer than 10 minutes to turn out. To add insult to injury, surrounding tables who arrived after us and ordered the same flatbread were served and well along the way into their meals. We asked the server for an update, and I believe the hostess finally caught wind of the boiling frustration and brought out bread and butter (again over 40 minutes later). As we began to contemplate walking out altogether, our flatbread finally arrives. My friend ordered Shrimp Conchiglie (grilled shrimp with velveeta shells) and I picked out the Butternut squash ravioli (a dull tasteless pasta, smothered in butter and crushed peanuts). Again both were poorly presented, tasted very bland, falling far below the trumped up description. The food was horribly slow, staff seemed unorganized and left all of us wondering just what went wrong. There are sooo many worthy places to enjoy a great meal and experience in LaJolla. Do yourself a favor and continue on to someplace else, trust me…you wont miss much.

We had a very good experience at this restaurant. We ate outdoors and the weather was pleasant. We ordered several dishes to share and everything was a delight to the palette. Many of the offering were interesting combination of ingredients, but not too adventurous as to scare away any patrons. The atmosphere was lively. Several groups eating and drinking and slightly loud. Our waiter, Brian, went out of his way to accomodate our requests and even followed up later via email on restaurant suggestions for other destinations on our vacation plans. Who provides service like that!?? Very nice, happy evening.

“Excellent house cured meats!”

Excellent food, excellent service. We ate there twice on our trip. The first time we arrived without a reservation, but they fit us in as a walk-in and were very polite about it.
We enjoyed their food so much, we went back for a second time (this time making a reservation).
The house cured meats are excellent in both the chorizo stuffed date fritters and on their cutting board.
We were actually even given an extra dish from the kitchen to sample.
The food is expensive but well worth it.

“Arrogant service, poor hospitality training, lackluster food, waste of time and calories”

After carefully reading all the reviews and after having a great time at Nine Ten the previous night, we decided to try Whisk'n'Ladle. The reviewer 'CariciaSD' nailed her review of this restaurant dead-on. Whenever something wasn't going right, they ALWAYS brushed it off and made it look like the customer's the problem. These are the problems:
1. Host- after being informed of a 30 min. wait, we told him to put our party down and will be back in 20-30 mins. Well, we came back and no table was ready. He was actually surprised to see us again and said it'll take a couple more minutes. He didn't seem excited to get us as customers. Little did he know...
2. Waiter- Forgot my drink order totally, messed up on one of the party's order. We were sitting for 50 mins! No food came until one of our party members took it up with the manager
3. Slow, long wait for food- After complaining about the long wait, the host and the waiter INSISTED that it has only been 20 mins. and that one of our party's steak order took at least that to cook. Well, there was NO steak salad order in our party (just a burger medium rare!) and even if there was one, how long does it take to sear a medium rare flank steak for the salad??
4. Arrogance- They were totally non-apologetic. They still kept insisting it has only been 20 mins. So we told the Host that he seated us himself 50 mins. ago and I'm sure he remembered as he couldn't contest it anymore. The least they could have done was be apologetic and compliment a couple of dishes or add free dessert. Well no, their solution was to keep offering us the burger. Our party can't wait any longer for another dish that we didn't need. So our party member ended up just eating the steak salad he didn't want or care for but just for sustenance and make sure the rest of our party wasn't hungry.
5. Bland, unimaginative food- You would think the food would at least be spectacular and full of flavor being 'organic'. I ordered a fried green tomato salad. The green tomatoes were overcoated with bland batter that the crust slid off upon cutting. There were literally 5 leaves of lettuce, the crab was a bland unseasoned clump on the side, dressing tasted like milk and mayonnaise mixed. Yuck!

And mind you, we have eaten and enjoyed both from street food to 3 star Michelins. This rates at the bottom. I'ved had better food and service at roadside shacks.
