Description: SpecialtiesFrench, Spanish & Italian inspired farm-to-table fare! Happy Hour starts daily at 3 p.m. and includes $8 cocktails, $5 sangria and $4 tapas.HistoryEstablished in 2008Whisknladle is a nationally-acclaimed restaurant located in the heart of beautiful downtown La Jolla, Calif. Renowned for its Spanish, French & Italian inspired farm-to-table fare, Whisknladle was recently awarded both the Critic's Pick and Readers' Choice for "Best Farm-to-Table" restaurant by San Diego Magazine. Corporate Executive Chef, Ryan Johnston, was named "Best Chef" by San Diego Home & Garden readers in 2012 and again by San Diego Magazine readers in 2013.Meet the Business Owner: Arturo K.Whisknladle Hospitality started simply with the serendipitous meeting of one talented chef [Ryan Johnston] and one young entrepreneur [Arturo Kassel] in 2006. Convinced that what San Diego needed was a farm-fresh restaurant that served from-scratch cooking, the pair opened Whisknladle in the heart of La Jolla in 2008. This back-to-basics approach to cooking - or gourmet comfort food - has firmly planted Whisknladle in the hearts of locals and tourists alike.A La Jolla institution with a national following, Whisknladle expanded its concept into another style of restaurants - Prepkitchen. A restaurant designed for cooks by cooks, Prepkitchen focuses on delivering the same farm-fresh and seasonal cuisine at an everyday-eats price. Since opening the first Prepkitchen in La Jolla, the concept has exploded. In 2010, Whisknladle Hospitality opened Prepkitchen Del Mar and then Prepkitchen Little Italy in 2012.Whisknladle Also RecommendsPrepkitchen La Jolla7556 Fay AveLa Jolla, CA 92037Category: American (New)"Inspired by cooks for cooks, Prepkitchen serves artisanal, local fare at an everyday-eats price!"Prepkitchen Del Mar1201 Camino Del MarDel Mar, CA 92014Category: American (New)"Located in downtown Del Mar, Prepkitchen serves artisanal, farm-to-table style cuisine in the city's beautiful, coastal neighborhood environment."Prepkitchen Little Italy1660 India StSan Diego, CA 92101Category: American (New)

“Good food, slow service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2014

Great food. Each time we go here it is very slow. The staff is clearly doing their best - it seems they just don't have enough staff to move things along.

“Really fun”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2014

Quirky interior, very dark physically, but with excellent, knowledge, and fun wait staff. We were there durin San Diego Restaurant Week, and were allowed to choose three courses from ANYTHING on their regular menu, making it an excellent value. Very original dishes, prepared in creative ways. Cutting Board is a great appetizer, scallops outstanding, and desserts excellent if not very low fat. Flat Iron Steak a bit tough, but accompaniments gave it great flavor.

“Great food, fantastic service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2014

Great food and fantastic service. We were so lucky to receive FANTASTIC recommendations from our waiter guy in the bar. He had the BEST smile and he did one great great job recommending things for us EATER girls to eat. Yum yum. Must recommend finishing any meal with the chocolate torte. Beets ... who knew?! So nice to have an innovative place do well in a really tourist-oriented area. Thank-you for the great food. Great happy hour prices too.

“$18.50 for a Burger and Fries for an overcooked burger”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2014

Good: Cool atmosphere, good service, close to everything in La Jolla, great place to meet friends or for a business dinner. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food (except for my burger).

Bad: You know when I saw the burger for $18.50 I thought, "hey they are really proud of their burger, I bet it is really good". It was overdone and the fries seemed like they were from the bottom of the bag. I was disappointed!

Other: We did also try the flat bread which was excellent. Others in our party tried the Lamb dish and were disappointed in the portion size. One person had the pork chop and raved about it.

Overall, I gave this a "3" mainly because my burger experience.

“Fabulous Atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2014

Six of us met here for late afternoon cocktails and appetizers. Luckily, we just beat the big rush and got seats at the bar. Beautiful decor and a really nice area for such a bistro. We ordered drinks all around and several of us (not me) ordered interesting drinks. I enjoyed a local IPA to get my daily hops. While sipping, we also ordered 4 different appetizers. The mini-ribs were so good I actually still think about them. The bacon wrapped dates were delicious and quickly consumed. The chicken wings were terrible. Kind of greasy with no seasoning left them limp, stringy and undesirable. We passed the plate around and a few were picked at.

The bartenders were really nice and discussed the food and beverage options clearly and in a great method. I would go back but not until I checked out several other interesting looking establishments in the immediate area.

Price was probably a little high but that is a personal choice to accept.
