Description: SpecialtiesFrench, Spanish & Italian inspired farm-to-table fare! Happy Hour starts daily at 3 p.m. and includes $8 cocktails, $5 sangria and $4 tapas.HistoryEstablished in 2008Whisknladle is a nationally-acclaimed restaurant located in the heart of beautiful downtown La Jolla, Calif. Renowned for its Spanish, French & Italian inspired farm-to-table fare, Whisknladle was recently awarded both the Critic's Pick and Readers' Choice for "Best Farm-to-Table" restaurant by San Diego Magazine. Corporate Executive Chef, Ryan Johnston, was named "Best Chef" by San Diego Home & Garden readers in 2012 and again by San Diego Magazine readers in 2013.Meet the Business Owner: Arturo K.Whisknladle Hospitality started simply with the serendipitous meeting of one talented chef [Ryan Johnston] and one young entrepreneur [Arturo Kassel] in 2006. Convinced that what San Diego needed was a farm-fresh restaurant that served from-scratch cooking, the pair opened Whisknladle in the heart of La Jolla in 2008. This back-to-basics approach to cooking - or gourmet comfort food - has firmly planted Whisknladle in the hearts of locals and tourists alike.A La Jolla institution with a national following, Whisknladle expanded its concept into another style of restaurants - Prepkitchen. A restaurant designed for cooks by cooks, Prepkitchen focuses on delivering the same farm-fresh and seasonal cuisine at an everyday-eats price. Since opening the first Prepkitchen in La Jolla, the concept has exploded. In 2010, Whisknladle Hospitality opened Prepkitchen Del Mar and then Prepkitchen Little Italy in 2012.Whisknladle Also RecommendsPrepkitchen La Jolla7556 Fay AveLa Jolla, CA 92037Category: American (New)"Inspired by cooks for cooks, Prepkitchen serves artisanal, local fare at an everyday-eats price!"Prepkitchen Del Mar1201 Camino Del MarDel Mar, CA 92014Category: American (New)"Located in downtown Del Mar, Prepkitchen serves artisanal, farm-to-table style cuisine in the city's beautiful, coastal neighborhood environment."Prepkitchen Little Italy1660 India StSan Diego, CA 92101Category: American (New)

“Great food at a bustling, but comfy place.”
Reviewed August 20, 2013 via mobile

Went in for dinner but wound up sticking to the tapas menu. Every one we tried was better than the previous. Had a couple of dupes because they were so good. Definitely going to have the braised pork ribs when I go back.

“Fabulous”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

Don't let the silly name put you off. This is a delightful bistro with a very ambitious menu, faultlessly executed and expertly served. I had the Roasted Jidori Chicken | Sweet Peppers, Santa Rosa Plums, Pickled Currants, Pine Nuts & Fried Bread , and I am still scratching my head trying to figure out how they made chicken so moist and delicious. My husband had the Colorado Lamb Rack | Fresh Cranberry Beans, Wax Beans, Mint, Glazed Eggplant & Olive Salsa and it was equally good. Our waiter was extremely attentive and helpful. And the whole place exuded a cheerful ambiance. This will be on my "must visit" list for future trips to the San Diego areal.

“Faultless”
Reviewed July 27, 2013

Really very good food from a well thought out menu. We had the scallops and lamb rack, both absolutely excellent. Good, knowledgable service. Wine a little expensive compared to meal price but a good wine menu. Nice, adult ambience. Best meal I've had in along time.

“Incredible farm to table restaurant”
Reviewed July 26, 2013 via mobile

I had been to their sister restaurant at PrepKitchen Little Italy, San Diego a few month ago. I was excited to bring my parents here because PrepKitchen had been fantastic.

Make sure to make a reservation because even though we had we still had to wait 10minutes to be seated, people we bunched along the sidewalk waiting for tables and it was only 8:30pm Thursday night.

The produce and ingredients were light and fresh. It's a farm to table fare. I had the king Salmon cooked medium well, it was suburb. My mum adored her scallops which were a large size and tender. Portion sizes were exactly what you need to feel full and satisfed.

Our server Emily was friendly and knowledgeable with the wine list and excellent with her wine pairing suggestions.

A great night out with fesh food!
