Description: SpecialtiesFrench, Spanish & Italian inspired farm-to-table fare! Happy Hour starts daily at 3 p.m. and includes $8 cocktails, $5 sangria and $4 tapas.HistoryEstablished in 2008Whisknladle is a nationally-acclaimed restaurant located in the heart of beautiful downtown La Jolla, Calif. Renowned for its Spanish, French & Italian inspired farm-to-table fare, Whisknladle was recently awarded both the Critic's Pick and Readers' Choice for "Best Farm-to-Table" restaurant by San Diego Magazine. Corporate Executive Chef, Ryan Johnston, was named "Best Chef" by San Diego Home & Garden readers in 2012 and again by San Diego Magazine readers in 2013.Meet the Business Owner: Arturo K.Whisknladle Hospitality started simply with the serendipitous meeting of one talented chef [Ryan Johnston] and one young entrepreneur [Arturo Kassel] in 2006. Convinced that what San Diego needed was a farm-fresh restaurant that served from-scratch cooking, the pair opened Whisknladle in the heart of La Jolla in 2008. This back-to-basics approach to cooking - or gourmet comfort food - has firmly planted Whisknladle in the hearts of locals and tourists alike.A La Jolla institution with a national following, Whisknladle expanded its concept into another style of restaurants - Prepkitchen. A restaurant designed for cooks by cooks, Prepkitchen focuses on delivering the same farm-fresh and seasonal cuisine at an everyday-eats price. Since opening the first Prepkitchen in La Jolla, the concept has exploded. In 2010, Whisknladle Hospitality opened Prepkitchen Del Mar and then Prepkitchen Little Italy in 2012.Whisknladle Also RecommendsPrepkitchen La Jolla7556 Fay AveLa Jolla, CA 92037Category: American (New)"Inspired by cooks for cooks, Prepkitchen serves artisanal, local fare at an everyday-eats price!"Prepkitchen Del Mar1201 Camino Del MarDel Mar, CA 92014Category: American (New)"Located in downtown Del Mar, Prepkitchen serves artisanal, farm-to-table style cuisine in the city's beautiful, coastal neighborhood environment."Prepkitchen Little Italy1660 India StSan Diego, CA 92101Category: American (New)

This restaurant definitely lived up to their corporate slogan. I found them on the internet and was a bit skeptical about the rave reviews but decided to give this "#1 rated restaurant" a try since it was our last night in town.

We had dinner with another couple and were blown away by the very creative food and sincerely nice staff. This open-air restaurant is in the center of LaJolla Village so there's no view of the ocean, but the decorations are whimsical and charming. It's not a very large restaurant so reservations are a must, although there is a separate bar area while you wait for a table.

All the items on the menu are "specials". It's not a very big menu, but most folks will find something appealing. All of the selections were prepared with unusual, but delicious, dressings or sauces. We tried the "chef's whim" soup which was a spicy pumpkin bisque -- yummy. Then several small plates including the caesar salad with a very nice light dressing, grilled scallops and pork belly on lentils. The flank steak dinner came with a huge pile of perfectly crisped pomme frittes. I saved the best for last -- the most amazing roast chicken with crispy skin and a saffron sauce.

The restaurnat manager said they spend an extraordinary amount of time selecting and training their staff and we can testify to the great service we experienced from everyone who helped us.

Don't miss this restaurant if you're in the LaJolla area! We definitely will go back.

We recently rented a house in La Jolla with friends and discovered the restaurant via the Internet. When we arrived our table was not ready so we had a drink in the bar. We were seated approx 10 mins later and the hostess came to our table and apologized for the wait and brought a complimentary prosciutto and arugula flatbread which was outstanding. A great gesture. The menu is tantalizing making it difficult to choose. We chose four separate dishes and loved all of them. The atmosphere is comfortable and it was very busy on a Monday night. A great wine list is also available. I highly recommend you check it out.

Not worth the high price and and small portions. I ordered a bowl of of soup which was bland and also cost $9.00. For $14.00 I ordered a sandwich, and when it came, it was about 3 inches square and the rest of the plate was covered with french fries. It was like the fries was the main course of the the dish and the sandwich was on the side. The service wasn't anything special. The disappointing part of this experience was that this restaurant was recommended by some locals. We won't be back.
