“A classic local spot for BBQ and big Drinks”
Reviewed September 4, 2011

I rely on Tripadvisor for a lot of travel stuff. I thought why don't I write something about my neck of the woods. While I don't live in Klamath, CA, I live in Crescent City about 22 miles away.

Steelhead Lodge is a local favorite. It is hidden in the Klamath Glenn deep in Klamath, CA about 5 miles off of 101. This is not 5 star dining. It is a BBQ place that serves huge drinks, Flintstone size portions of Ribs and Meat and fishbowl size drinks. It is about excess and a good price.

People drink, they get loud, and it huge portions. What is not to like? After 15 years of trying, I still can't finish the 3rd layer of the Cleveland Riffle which is 3 layers of Ribs. Always some to take home and eat the next day (or 2).

If you want a truly local experience in Del Norte County, this is it. Owners are friendly folks, they have unique decor (Old Saws from the logging era) and just an all around cool spot for a meal that will fill you up for the next 24 hours.

“Biggest steak of my life”
Reviewed March 20, 2011

The steaks this place are enormous. Unfortunately, the cuts are not top quality and salt and pepper is do it yourself. No other seasoning to speak of either - which would make the experience much, much better.
If you want to share a steak, you pay another $9 and get additional side dishes, which is good. Nothing particularly stunning on the wine list, so we all ended up drinking beer.
However, it was an entertaining place that evening with a snake found in the ladies resulting in all sorts of commotion. Not that we had a choice - it's the only place to eat in Klamath.

“Ok food if you love meat”
Reviewed September 21, 2010

Ate here one of the three nights in the area. It is a funky place with lots of locals. The menu was pretty limited. Lots of meat. The portions are large, but skimpy on the vegetables. I had grilled chicken. Very flavorful and tender. My husband had the rib eye. It was ok. Way too fatty. The waitress was friendly and efficient.

“OK”
Reviewed July 26, 2010

My wife and I had dinner there last week. We both had fresh fish (red snapper and ling cod).. Meal starts with a large family sized salad bowl with bagged cut up lettuce and three salad dressings. When you are finished with the large bowl they remove it and (probably) refresh it with additional lettuce for the next customer. Dinner rolls are served with the salad but no plates to put your roll on and the rolls are heated in the microwave so that when you do get a plate for your roll it's as tender as a hockey puck (had trouble pulling it apart let alone chewing it). $18 of seafood means 4 to 6 ounces grilled - a little pricey in my book. If you do go, it looks like most of the regulars order the ribs - I think fish is for tourists......
