We stayed for 2 nights in September. Rustic but charming. We also did a Living Social package and they treated us like royalty. We will be back. Be sure to try the oatmeal for breakfast, the Chef, Tom is outstanding. From breakfast to dinner we were never disappointed. We will be back!

we visited Kit Carson Lodge as part of a Living Social package and we were not disappointed. Everything was wonderful, the staff were so hospitable, the food was awesome, the accomodations were rustic with charm and very quaint. the knotty pine interior of the cabins and rooms was really warm and inviting. The decor fit the rustic cabin feel and the surrounding scenery. Thunder Mountain was awesome and the smell of the pines was intoxicating. The peace and quiet was just what the dr ordered; no phones, no tv, no internet, no radio. We enjoyed hiking, taking pictures, dining, the lodge fireplace, the art gallery, etc. We will definitley be back again next year.

Room Tip: the cabins and rooms on the lakes edge are the best views. Also, it gets cold at night so bring warm pj's. No phones, no internet, no tv and no radio so prepare for wonderful peace and quiet.

If you love camping and cabins you'll love this place. Our room was like a little cabin, rustic, clean and comfortable with a deck and a view of the lake. The lodge and diningroom are rustic with a bit of elegance and the food is great and reasonably priced. You can fish, swim, kayak, boat, hike, explore or just sit and enjoy the scenery. If you feel like a little ride, there are other small lakes just up the road to see and South Lake Tahoe is only about 30 minutes away.
The owners, Mike and Karen, are very hospitable as well as the employees. We had a great time.

Room Tip: Get a room or cabin with a lake view!

A hour's drive from South Lake Tahoe, this gem of a wilderness cabin hotel has everything going for it. Scenery, wildlife, and laidback and simple cottage accomodations scattered throughout the property overlooking the lake. We had lunch after exploring the property and Chef Tom does a tremendous job. We had a wonderful Spanish influenced Chicken and Vegetable soup and a crispy fresh BLT. Wine list is impressive. Worth a day's excursion while in Tahoe and the trip up and back is truly scenic (and paved!). We'd stay a few days there in a minute if they would allow dogs as guests...

We hosted a wedding rehearsal dinner for 32 on the deck of the lodge. The entire dinner went smoothly. The staff was prepared when we arrived, the tables were set appropriately for the occasion and the guests were very pleased to the person attending. My dinner was the stuffed tomato and it was over the top fantastic. The dessert tray was a big hit, especially the creme brulee. We stayed two nights and found the setting quiet, beautiful and well managed. We are early risers so waiting for coffee until 8am had us begging by the time available, but the breakfast included at the lodge is nicely prepared-far superior to many places we have stayed. The accommodations suited our style far more than the Kirkwood condos. We did not mind the limited electric in the rooms, the atmosphere more than made up for that! Strong recommend!
