“BRING A COOLER AND UMBRELLA!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012

We stayed in Tahoe Vista the last week of July and visited this State park twice. It is by far the nicest beach in the area; clean, beautiful. However, don't go there thinking you will be able to grab a drink or any type of refreshments at a stand or restaraunt. There is ONE such place, run by the state, and the prices were very high and the line was VERY, VERY long. When I finally did get my Pepsi, it was flat and yucky. If you don't mind a bit of a hike, you can run back out on the main road and get something; but i would just bring a cooler. Also, there is no place to rent an umbrella or anything to get out of the sun, so bring one with you. And be forewarned: the water is COLD! My son is very hardy and usually swims in anything; but even he could only get in waist-high. Also, we got there about 1100 am and we had to park really far away. Get there early. Lots of clean restrooms, which was nice.

“Beach for kids”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2012

Nice place on Lake Tahoe to take little kids, water is shallow and relatively warm with sandy bottom. Playground, public restrooms, volleyball nets, close by restaurants, parking (lot fills up early though).

“Nice beach, gets crowded over summer weekends”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

This is a popular beach with plenty of water sports options.... you can rent jetskis, paddle boats, kayaks, stand up paddle boards etc.

The water is cold, but shallow, calm and amazingly clear. The sand can get hot, and there's not a lot of shade - so bring an umbrella or some shade if you plan to spend some time there on a hot day. It's a popular beach, so gets crowded on weekends in the summer.... one problem with the crowds is trash - people don't seem to pick up after themselves and there was a lot of trash like cigarette butts, plastic cups and wrappers on the beach.

However, a fun place to spend a couple of hours enjoying the lake.

The views are especially lovely in the winter when the crowds have gone, and the beach is peaceful.

“Our Favorite Beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

We live in Truckee, just about 15 minutes from Kings Beach State Recreation Area. We love coming here for the beach more than anywhere in Tahoe, especially considering the distance (Sand Harbor is great too, but a much further drive). Lake Tahoe water is cold, but the beach here goes out a long ways, perhaps 100 yards, where you can still easily touch the sandy bottom creating a gigantic shallow zone. Almost no rocks anywhere, and smooth, dark sand that warms up nicely from the sun. Perfect for kids and parents. Tahoe water is never really warm, but it's about as warm as it can get here, especially on a calm day when the waves don't get raised by the wind.
There are also lots of things to do: rentals for all kinds of water fun like wave runners, volleyball, arts and crafts on the sidewalk, shopping across the street and more. Really love the laid back nature here. And the views of Tahoe mountains down the west shore and across at Heavenly Valley are gorgeous.
Parking in the lot is expensive but easy to find spots across the street if you're willing to walk a block or less to save 8 bucks.
We usually come here and don't spend a dime, from parking to enjoying a couple of hours of the best beach around.
