We have absolute admiration for the staff at Hostel Tahoe who always have a smile and keep such a beautifully clean, homely and attractive hostel....We spent just three nights here..met lovely people in the kitchen!! Our bedroom and bathroom were better than many hotels we have stayed in...so fresh, pretty and clean...not your normal basics you find in most hostels....

A definite 5 star hostel ...congratulations!!

Room Tip: We were in no 6....a bit noisy because of the road but only in the morning!x

A lovely place with lovely owners - just give them a call and they will do their best to fit you in. We had a wonderful couple of days there and the location is perfect.

Fresh homebaked bread, a kitchen with tea and coffee and a lovely open shared living room. The rooms/beds are not "hotel" style, but at the very comfortable end of hostel beds. Good showers which always makes a difference! THere are private rooms also if you are less keen to share. DVDs, board games, comfy sofas. Everything you could want from a home from home.

Kings Beach is at the North of Lake Tahoe, near some great walks and just a few minutes walk from a lovely empty beach where you can hire canoes etc. Not party central but if that is your style, then there are other places to stay!

Room Tip: Just talk to one of the owners about what you want.

We stayed at the Hostel Tahoe for Ironman Lake Tahoe 2013. We had the private room (#6) with a private bathroom (shower/toilet). It was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the furnishings cute. The kitchen was updated with great appliances and very spacious. Plenty of utensils and dishes, and lots of counter space to work on. The den had a fireplace and comfy chairs and sofa, and an extended dining room in the back for larger groups.

We were able to walk to everything in King's Beach and the transition area was only about 500 yards away.

This hostel is much more convenient than a hotel, run by great folks who care about your stay, and a perfect Ironman accommodation.

Room Tip: #6 is the private room with one king bed and private bathroom

Here's what I loved about this place: It is quite well run by people who care about you and about what they are doing. Check-in is smooth, the people running the place make you feel welcome and explain how things work, in other words you immediately feel comfortable being there. The next thing I noticed when I went in my room (number 6) was that it smelled so fresh. It smelled very clean in a good way, like the outdoors. It did not smell like an old musty motel room and it did not smell like heavy-duty cleaners and air "fresheners" had been sprayed around. I appreciative that attention to detail. And, as others have noted it was spotlessly clean. Number 6 is a good-sized room, the tile in the bath seemed new as well as the Ikea sink. It has lots of space and a comfortable bed. (The "6" on the door is formed out of lichen, a unique touch.)
I also liked that it was within walking distance of restaurants and within biking distance of a Safeway and wonderful beaches on the Nevada side.
The communal space at this hostel is first rate too. Kitchen, dining room, living room all are very inviting and clean. I appreciated the number of maps and books about Tahoe that were available. It was also a great place to chat with people, which I did to find out more about the roads as I was on my bike.
The downside of staying here is that, surprisingly, there is a lot of traffic on the nearby road and as the hostel sits on the side of the hill you end up hearing it. (Well into the night--where are all those people going?) This kept me awake on and off the first night and on the second I mostly slept through it. But if the sound of traffic at night bothers you, you will not be comfortable here. The room also has no TV, which I think they make a note of, and if you love your TV this would not be the place to stay.
Other than that, I would recommend Tahoe Hostel to virtually anybody and feel that the glowing comments they have received from other guests are well deserved.

One of the most beautiful hostels I've ever stayed at. Located in a small quiet beach town on the lake. The rooms are squeaky clean and spacious (especially the private room with ensuite bathroom, room 6! Beautiful!). The common area is full of useful things for cooking. There is even a bbq outside with a table. The whole place is surrounded by pine trees and by more expensive properties. Laundromat is 2 min away. I would definitely stay here again! The owner is also really lovely.

This hostel was definitely up there with the best. Really friendly, small, well priced & well equipped. Breakfast was delicious with homemade granola, muffins, fresh baked bread etc. We had use of bikes if we chose to potter down to the lake, which is only a short ride away.
We booked a double room, which felt spacious, comfortable & much nicer than many B&Bs we have stayed in!
The kitchen had everything you could think of for self catering & there were comfy seats for lounging in for the evening.
The owner couldn't have been friendlier.
Just a fab couple of nights!

Room Tip: Room at the end furthest from the road - lovely & quiet

This was my best find on a recent trip out to California. The hostel is spotless clean, very well maintained and brilliantly presented. The kitchen is fully equipped, cosy and welcoming. They have bicycles you can borrow and great wifi. The rooms are kept very clean and tidy with a nice little wardrobe space in each to keep the rooms from cluttering up with cases etc. The bathroom within the room has everything you need and are quite clean.
This super little place is only open a couple of years so is currently undervalued in my honest opinion. It sits on a great location just on the eastern edge of King's beach village but literally only a stone's throw from all the amenities and convenience stores etc. The staff are a very friendly bunch happy to offer advice/recommendations of local trails, hikes, things to do, etc., I honestly can't recommend this hostel highly enough. You'll be delighted with it! I will most definitely use it for any future trips to the Lake Tahoe area. Enjoy!
