The park is very nice, and it was great to see wild Komodo dragons in their somewhat natural environment. I say "somewhat" because they mostly hang out near the ranger's lodges, since they smell food there.

Be warned that there are dozens of little fees they charge you, which are not excessive though you get the feeling it is all lining someone's pocket and not going toward the park. Entering the park is a slow process.

We went in the morning, when the dragons are just beginning to heat up, so they were sedate, but that didn't lessen the experience any. The park is also full of birds, and if you like birds be sure to have the guide point them out.

We also visited the park at Rinca Island, and I preferred the one on Komodo Island (though I also suggest you see both, if you can).

Great job by the rangers keeping the dragons at bay and leading us past a group of 6 salivating dragons.
We were there at the green time and the island was beautiful and the dragons very active.

Snorkeling on Pink Beach in the park is spectacular too. So many live corals and fish varieties in crystal water!

I visited Komodo and Rinca as part of a 4 day boat trip based out of Lombok. There are many komodos around the camp as that's where food is prepared. Here, you'll be able to take your pictures with the dragons. I didn't see too many komodos on the trek. You'll have a couple of guides with you at all times and they are great for pointing out other wildlife. The trek is hot, but you'll get some amazing views. You can choose which trek to go on from short to long. I think the medium trek is worth the view you get.

We visited Komodo Island off a Cruise ship. We had made arrangements with KOMODO TOURS ( I put this agency in capital letters so you will remember the name and not hire them) in advance for excursions on the Island. When our party of 4 arrived at the pier where the ship's.tender docked, the guide we expected was not there to meet us. A substitute guide from the same agency was finally located (after 20 minute wait) Since he had a sign with our 4 names on it and a print-out of our last e-mail to the agency we felt it was safe to pay him the agreed upon amount of money he requested for the excursions,. This guide then introduced us to a man that he said was "a Park Ranger". The Park Ranger was going to lead us through the National park to see the Komodo Dragons,.As the Ranger started the tour, the guide said he would not be going with us but would meet us about an hour and a half later at the end of the National Park tour.. The tour ended a quick 40 minutes later at the market stalls wherein the "Park Ranger" said that he was only a volunteer Ranger and that we would have to pay him for his guiding services. We tried to find the Komodo Tour Guide but he had disappeared on us, never to be seen again. For an hour and a half we tried to communicate with Park Officials and other National Park Rangers to explain how we had been "Taken" by this Tour Company and that we had paid for further guided touring of the Island.
We finally located an officer from the ship who found out that our guide was "Double dipping".
While he had been paid to be guiding us he was now leading one of the ship's tours of the island. The officer said that he had found a friend of the guide and the guide had told him
that if we waited another hour or so he would try to come back to us.
It turned out that the friend was very embarrassed about this Scam and offered to take us to see the Komodo village. He did not want us to have a bad impression of the Indonesian people. If you need a good guide contact Andy at the following e-mail kamelusandi@yahoo.co.id. He did try to save the day for us. Unfortunately we had wasted so much time searching for our guide that we had to return to our ship without having time to snorkle and swim on our own at the beautiful Pink Beach.
I would highly recommend Andi as a guide but it is hard to get over our negative experience.
Komodo iSLAND is a unique place to visit and should only leave you with wonderful memories.
