It's my first time staying in one of these hotels. I enjoyed it very much. Our room was in the south tower. Our room was perfect size for 2 adults and 2 kids. The place was clean and the hot spring was amazing. The hot spring area is huge with many pools both indoor and outdoor. The staffs were extremely helpful and friendly. They went out of their way to ensure we were enjoying it. Dinner was ok, typical japanese/asian food with many different choices.
The only thing would make it even better would be wifi in the room. Only the lobby has wifi.

It's one of the best onsen I've ever been. Big and a lot of pools to choose from. (about 10 or more, both indoor and outdoor) The onsen has high ceiling, makes you feel comfortable. The dressing room is excellent. All the facilities you need, is there. From cotton buds, shampoos, teas to blood pressure metre and all. A big spread of buffet dinner. Hokkaido crabs are also available at the buffet. Japanese tea is available in the room. It's very near to the hell valley. Car park is also available. Wifi is not available in the room. (only in the lobby) There's no view from the hotel room. The service is good. Do walk around the hotel in the morning. There's a nice garden behind the hotel. Gaming arcade is also available at the basement. Good for children to spend their time.

A couple of months ago I stayed at the Daiichi Takimotokan. I put a video review together of the hotel on youtube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joedsQk_V-o

Getting to the hotel couldn't have been easier since we took the hotel's bus from the Sapporo JR Train Station to the hotel. Make sure that you reserve the bus in advance though! Note: When we called the hotel to make bus reservations, nobody spoke English. So I might suggest reserving through their website or e-mail.

Checking in was easy, and the check in staff spoke English and gave us English language maps and information on the property. We booked a Japanese style room in the newest tower on property. The lady that brought us to our room spoke English and explained the various amenities of the room. She also brought me a "XL" Yukata and sandals since I'm a big American guy. The room itself was plain, but nice. In addition to the usual large tatami area with table, there was a seating area next to the window with a cool view of the valley.

The Onsen, also known as the Grand Bath, is one of the biggest Onsens that I've been to in all of Japan. It is two stories and features seven different types and temperatures of water. The Grand Bath is truly grand, though it is a relatively old building. I also found it to be a it of a bummer that most of the bath's were inside. Only two of the baths were outside, which is where I spent the majority of my time because I really like to be in the Onsen outside in the fresh air. After the time in the Onsen there is some very tasty Iced Tea server in the locker room. You should definitely try it!

The dinner buffet was also excellent! It's probably one of the best buffets that I've had a hotel in Japan and definitely the most filling meal that I had during my trip to Hokkaido.

The area, Noboribetsu, is quite a little touristy town. After checking in to the hotel you might consider to take a quick "hike" over to Hell Valley, where the Hot Spring water is bubbling up from the ground. It's a cool attraction, and lots of tour buses drop people off there just to view it. During certain seasons the path to the Hot Spring is light up at night which makes for a fun night-time walk as well.

Overall I had a wonderful stay at this hotel and would highly recommend a stay at this hotel!

Room Tip: Stay in the new tower

The hotel rooms are nice and spacious, and offers huge spa. Breakfast is excellent. Located just right at the end of the shopping street. Staffs are friendly. The hotel is also just right next to the Hell Valley, which the guest can get there by food in 5 minutes. There is a bus stop right in front of hotel that can take you to the Sapporo Airport or the nearest JR Station, very convenient.

However, price is on the high side.

This hotel is the best in Nonoribetsu!
You can choose Japanese style room or normal room. I stayed in Japanese style room and hotel staff will comes to make your bed ready around 5pm. (Sleep on the floor) Hotel has own osen park with both indoor and outdoor osen bath. Swimming pool also available during winter. Outdoor bath is A MUST!

A true Onsen hotel. Busy with loads of tourists but still maintains the basic charm n classic feel.
A very homely outfit despite its size.things work here.
They made sure the kids yukata fits
the buffet style food was more than sufficient for a hungry person base on decent Hokkaido food quality n variety

After reading the reviews on Tripadvisor and other websites, I decided to stay in Daiichi Takimotokan during my visit to Noboribetsu for two nights. Having a high expectation of the hotel after reading the review and after staying in various accomodations across Japan, I was a teeny little bit disappointed, though frankly speaking, it is really a fine accomodation.

Location: It is located at the end of the shopping street which has nothing much to shop (probably most shops were closed due to winter?). I took a bus from JR Noboribetsu station and got off at the bus terminal (after asking the bus driver). There is a bus stop directly outside Daiichi Takimotokan but I have no idea where this bus leads to. The hotel is very near to the Hell Valley (not more than 5 minutes away) which is wonderful! Another thing to add... you may want to try the ramen at the shop directly opposite the Tourist Information place along the shopping street. It is quite a famous shop and you can choose the level of spiciness for your ramen.

Room: We took a room for two in the main building. It has the usual tatami mats and we sleep on futons at night. The view from the room is nothing fantastic. The toilet, the wash basin and the bath are separated from one other. I have not seen the rooms at the other buildings but I supposed it is not really worthwhile to pay so much for a room in the main building. The rooms in the main building are supposed to the newest but there are still some signs of aging.

Food: Our package consists of morning and dinner buffet as according to the booking. The dinner hall was big but nothing much in terms of ambience or decoration. I do like the variety of food available. The quality of the food is normal though. For morning, instead of buffet, we were given coupons to dine at a restaurant instead where we are served traditional Japanese breakfast. The ambience and service at the restaurant were good though we pretty much prefer a buffet breakfast due to dietary constraints of my partner.

Others: No internet connection was available in the room which is quite expected of an onsen hotel. However, free wifi is available in the lobby. The onsen is what most people come for in Daiichi Takimotokan. I can only provide feedback for the female onsen. The range of toiletries provided was amazing and of very good quality. I did have fun trying them out and the "horse oil" range is the best in my opinion. There are several baths to choose from (about 10? with different types of water). There is one particular indoor bath which offers good view of the Hell Valley. I was rather disappointed with the outdoor baths though as they offer no view except for trees. The dressing room was big and good, with bath towels and key lockers available. There was a lady tending to the area and would enthusiatically tell you what not to do in the onsen when she realised that you are a foreigner.

Overall the service in the hotel is good and Daiichi Takimotokan looks like one of the better onsen hotels in the area.
