I have stayed in the Independence several times over the years. It's an old glory from the sixties that maintains a nice allure.
It's away from the city center and between the beach and a small forest full of monkeys making it very quiet and relaxing.
You can take the existing free shuttle to and from city.
The hotel is being renovated (near the beach). The rooms are spacious and with the usual amenities. There are some rooms to the side of the main building but I never stayed there.
You can use a big outside pool and a small gym with a great view. All of this is well designed and integrated in the scenery.
Breakfast buffet is nice. You can ask for proper coffee if, like me, you prefer a stronger wake up. You can also have your meals in this restaurant with plenty of choice between local, regional and western foods.
Near the beach you also have a bar that will serve drinks and food. Not sure if because of construction work but it was full of dust on the counter what was disappointing. Some reorganisation and regular cleaning here would be nice.
There is also a large kids playground to the side of the beach bar.
Overall it was a good experience. Staff were professional and capable of flexibly attending my business requests which I believe is very important these days.
I'll be back.More
