The Independence Hotel was our luxury hotel in Sihanouk Ville. Nice and friendly services, pristine beach. We stayed 4 nights at the hotel and all of us were very enjoyed with our stay there. The most enjoyable time for us was at the beach front, playing with our kids.

Room Tip: Deluxe is very good. Room comes replete with contemporary conveniences and stunning views of the oce...

We stayed for 2 nights and found it to be a very relaxing property away from the throng of town. Upon check-in we were given refreshing cold towels and a non-alcoholic cocktail which was lovely and set the tone for the next couple of days.

The room was very clean and spacious with large panoramic windows with view across the beach and ocean. Very relaxing to lie on the bed gazing out. The bathroom was quite spacious with plenty of room for two girls to get ready! The only fault was the show was over the bath and there was no shower curtain so water went all over the floor.

The beach is lovely, clean and private so you're not bothered by anyone. There is a bar serving drinks and you can get beach towels from them as well. You can either walk down to the beach or catch the glass elevator which is quite novel.

We also took advantage of the on-site spa and had a wonderful body scrub, wrap and massage which took 3 hours and cost about AUD100. The spa staff were very friendly and attentive.

In the evening we had dinner in the restaurant and the food was well presented and ample. The menu had a good range of Asian and European dishes so something for everyone. Breakfast was included in our rate and was an extensive buffet with quite a good range to select from including cereals, fruit, breads, Asian fare, cheeses, eggs cooked to your liking etc.

After having had several days on the road this was a very welcome 2 night break and certainly allowed us to recharge our batteries.

Stayed in Double Suite family room and although a little more expensive than normal Cambodia prices is worth a small amount more if you want to have a few days of just relaxing, taking it easy and just going with the flow.

After a week between Siam Reap and Phnom Phen, we wanted a few days to chill and this was great, nice and quiet however just 10-15 minutes to the Golden Lion and the pubs, restaurants etc. Courtesy shuttle also handy

Hotel doesn't have a shop so make sure to stock up on munchies it you want them.

Private beach is nice and a long jetty which can be jumped off however just check for rips / currents as on day two the current was strong and although not dangerous, it could freak out some less experienced swimmers.

Only downside if any is location from Town so if you want to organise anything for following morning you need to be a little more proactive however we were not so fussed with this so was great and we always managed to do something on each day.

We stayed there just 1 night for our birthday because we can not afford more due to our budget but we really enjoyed this place. The views from the suite are amazing. The breakfast is one of the best we never had too with everything you want (eggs, asian dishes, cheese, juices ...) anyway it was short but great

I do not know what people are complaining about here. This place is a little pricier but completely worth it. We had a great room with a fabulous view, the food was top notch and the staff were amazing. The private beach is clean and quiet with calm water for swimming. Well worth the extra few dollars!

I can see why people love it, and why others hate it.

First, the good. The pool is great, the private beach is beautiful and clean. The hotel has masses of space, set in a nature reserve. We stayed in a premier villa, which had huge floor to ceiling windows with stunning sea views. There was a good restaurant on the beach, which takes advantage of their great location. It had been refurbished a while ago, and while some elements could do with a touch up others were great, like the rain shower. It is set away from the middle of town, though only a short tuk tuk ride away gives you the best of both worlds.

Then the bad.

The pool and beach have nowhere near enough sun loungers. We were lucky to go when it was very quiet, but if the hotel was half full you would not have a hope on either the beach or by the pool.

The rooms were a haven for mosquitos. There are ledges hidden all round the rooms where they live and with no mosquito nets will bite you all night. Totally unacceptable in a top end hotel in an area with malaria.

The service was the worst we found anywhere in Cambodia. Not that it was particularly terrible, just very disinterested with a pretty poor standard of English. For example, when checking out there wasn't even a "Did you enjoy your stay?". I was just handed a bill.

If you want to go to somewhere quiet, to enjoy a nice pool, nice beach, great views, you would enjoy it (provided you don't mind getting bitten by the mosquitos). My question would be why go to Sihanoukville for that?

We changed rooms four times due to mildew in the rooms. We got food poisoning in restaurant, all four: children and adults… Under no circumstances would I return to this hotel.

They did run this hotel with hundreds of rooms, with no kitchen and served mostly prefab food, terrible!

The hotel lives on in some kind of glamour from the 60s and it had certainly its charm, ones.
