“Lovely upgrade”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

Originally booked in a deluxe room but upgraded to premier villa. Very spacious with great sea views. This is a large property and loved the private beach. Breakfast caters to all tastes and has sea views as well

Room Tip: New deluxe rooms in the main building will be awesome

I stayed for three nights in a twin room in the old building. The staff were friendly. The room and bathroom were both very good sizes but there were lots of details not finished properly when the room was last refurbished. I think that at the prices being charged it is reasonable to expect a very good standard. Instead, paint and grout hadn't been properly cleaned off the tiles in the bathroom; the toilet roll holder had been mounted incorrectly; the hair dryer (which had a walk mount attached) had not been fixed to the wall; the latch on the door was directly in line with the card slot for the power in the room so had to be moved before you could insert the card. Little things but they should have been attended to. Breakfast was good, but otherwise the food and drinks in the hotel were overpriced. I had a facial which was very good and at $50 USD (+15%) should have been, and a hot stone massage which was a promotion (at $60USD +15%) and included a classic manicure. The massage was excellent but on a comparative basis it and the facial were way overpriced. The manicure wouldn't have been worth the $30 it was supposed to have cost. The beach was nice, the amenities in the room were good (shampoo and conditioner, shaving kit etc and an excellent little sewing kit) but only two small 350ml bottles of water, OK for me as I was travelling solo but not enough for two in a room. I think there is better value to be had in other hotels.

Nice hotel, but its hot water supply is not nearly enough. Do not book a room with a hot tub unless you want to soak in a big tub of cold water! There isn't even enough supply to take a hot bath in the bathroom tub. After calling maintenance, they explained that their water heaters aren't powerful enough, and that every room in the hotel has this problem. Other than this major annoyance, the hotel was fantastic.

Room Tip: Premium villa rooms do not have an adequate hot water supply

We originally wanted to go to the islands to end our trip, but we sadly had to cancel due to poor weather and illness. But our disappointment didn't last long once we arrived at the Independence Hotel! We decided to splurge a little and get one of the studio rooms and it was by far one of the nicest places we have ever stayed.

This hotel is about 10-15 mins drive from town, but the hotel shuttle can get you there and back easily.

With the stunning beach, and the surrounding jungle you could be forgiven for thinking you were on a secluded tropical island. The staff are helpful and attentive, they really go above and beyond to ensure you have a nice stay.

The only tip is to eat at the restaurant on the water, rather then the older one in the hotel. For some reason the food is substantially better in the new restaurant.

From reading the reviews and looking at all the pics, it was difficult to imagine the layout of the land. I chose to stay in a Premier Villa which was the furthest from all the public areas including the private beach. While this didn’t pose a problem as they have buggies on-call, I do think a swimming pool closer to the new area should be on the drawing board.

The room itself was magnificent and perfectly clean. Luxury with quality fixtures and fittings, high-tech lighting and air con control panel next to the bed, double doors of glass inlay redwood leading into the bathing and dressing area with a rain shower room large enough for 8. While the room was said to have garden views, my villa did have ocean views from the bay window and the terrace.

Dining was an exceptionally good experience and surprisingly inexpensive. The chef needs to be commended for preparing his menu to such high standards.

While this hotel is quite far from the township, a shuttle bus is provided about 4 times a day. Or I can highly recommend Mr Sna and his Executive Class Super Tuk Tuk which costs no more than a standard tuk tuk. Contact him by phone or text on 012 482 961 or 0977 020 445.

If I had to find a negative with this hotel then it would have to be staff training. The staff are perfectly friendly and polite but lack full training in their specific department. The receptionist who showed me to my room should have known to show me how the lighting control panel works, or at least indicated that there was one. Or the shuttle bus driver who didn’t know where a specific shop was located or even a specific street (even though we were standing on it when I asked him).

Independance Hotel is a gorgeous resort in a secluded area and a private beach with 5 star service.
The staff were the most friendly, genuine and helpful hotel staff I have ever come across. The regular shuttle bus in and out of town made it extremely convenient to visit the main area of town and was much appreciated.

Breakfast buffet was the best buffet I have experienced in Cambodia. I also had a facial treatment and was extremely happy to find out they used the
Dermalogica range.

All up the place is of excellent value and I cannot recommend this place enough.

I highly recommend Independence Hotel SPA. Pool and service is good. Bar at night has sometimes live music. Main building hotel rooms are being renovated. Gym and kids area are small. Good price quality for a 4 star range.
