Peaceful place in Otres 2

Review of Ren Resort
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Dec 20, 2018via mobile
Wonderful staff and excellent location. Yes, there is construction next door but it was quiet on the weekend. Mr Rich is extremely attentive and welcoming. Enjoy the sunset and happy hour. Room with access to the pool was relaxing and just what I needed.

We only stopped in here for two nights and wished we stayed longer. Ren Resort is located in Otres 2 and was wonderful. We were a bit apprehensive about Sihanoukville and Otres having read mixed reports about the beaches and construction. Certainly as you drive through Sihanoukville it looks like one big construction site. There has also been construction happening next door to Ren Resort but this is now mostly complete (the manager said they expect it to be completely finished by Christmas) and we couldn’t hear any noise from our room while we were there. The facilities were great and the rooms really well appointed and comfortable. The staff were absolutely fantastic, particularly Rich who is an absolute delight. Otres Beach itself was beautiful and the water was really clean. I was unsure about coming here but was pleasantly surprised and absolutely loved it and would happily have stayed longer.

This place definitely is a lovely place. The resort looks beautiful, the rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated, the pool is wonderful, the restaurant is good, the beach and it’s view are stunning and staff is extremely friendly. Is it overpriced as some reviewers write? I don’t think so, definitely not in comparison to the other resorts around here. The problem is the surrounding... driving up here gives you a glimpse of what will become of the area. It’s like driving through the threshold of hell, Building sites galore. Give it a few years, 2, maximum 5, and this place will be overrun with tourists looking for cheapish luxury. For me personally, yes, staying here and treating myself to a luxury I normally can’t afford has it’s attraction (as long as I look in the direction of the sea), but it also tends to nag at my conscience (whenever I look land inward).

Review for hotel- not area

Modern minimalist hotel on the beach. Pleasant stay & room large with lovely walk in shower.

Restaurant was good & the cocktails excellent. Team were very welcoming and helpful.

Right on the beach with a beautiful view of sunset.

Don’t bother with the evening boat fishing & sunset tour. It’s way overpriced and boat had pet cockroaches.

Review of surroundings: Based on the huge scale development of enormous Chinese casinos & the building site right next door, I’d have to say in hindsight I wished we’d skipped Sihanoukville.

It was probably amazing ten years ago. Now it’s just sad & all you can hear is the sound of angle grinders, cement mixers and dumper trucks.

I don’t think I’d come back but only because of the area.

The restaurant was great as was their service. The food and the breakfast buffet was served solicitously and with a smile. The housekeeping was not up to the mark at all with leaky pipes (fixed with towels!), unannounced water shortage, faulty flush, non replacement of coffee sachets etc.

Room tip: Insist on a room with a view

We had a problem on the first night but the Manager resolved it immediately the next morning. This is a very clean, tidy and well looked after resort. Excellent spacious rooms that are easy to relax in and a nice pool that won't leave you smelling like chemicals. All the staff are genuinely friendly and helpful.
The complex has a nice beachside restaurant where they serve a comprehensive breakfast. Everything is fresh and tasty. You can also chill out with your sea views, have a meal and a few cocktails and watch the sun go down. The beach is very clean and they have plenty of beach lounges for those lazy cocktail days with an occasional swim and massage. Ray and Rich really looked after us on our five day stay. These guys are amazing and really professional and passionate about their jobs. They made our stay so much better. This is not a multi story complex, it is a size that allows it to have a charm and personality. Congratulations to the management. We didn't do much apart from chill out at this little oasis. We were sad to leave.

Room tip: Best rooms are bottom floor with pool access.
