We had one of the sea view bungalows which was great but a big climb up and down to the restaurant. The rocky beach comments are unfair. Yes there are rocks but it is easy to swim through the channels. well protected for non swimmers and kids. It is also only 50 mts to walk to a Nice sandy public beach. On the down side the road up to the hotel entrance is awful. The rooms need maintenance. Our bathroom door was falling apart. Stairway hand rail was broken. Room door lock had been broken and badly repaired. Unless the owners recognise the need for some attention round the place people will stop going which will be a pity. Staff try hard.

Room Tip: Beach side rooms are great

My boyfriend and I only stayed one night here but we loved the bungalows. My only complaint would be still getting terrorized my mosquitos with the net down but otherwise we enjoyed our stay! Great open feeling with the door open and a great breeze coming off the ocean. Was able to take several walks down the beach and very close to the Lemongrass restaurant at the Sokha. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful anyway they could. The provided breakfast was delicious and i especially loved the homemade french toast and crepes!! Even though it was time to check out they allowed us to keep our room until our bus arrived to take us back to phnom pehn, which was very considerate of them and allowed us to relax a little longer and not have to carry our book bags any longer then we needed to. Would stay here again

Room Tip: Choose the Ocean view, it was high enough off the ground that we felt safe to leave our back door op...

We spent 3 nights at malibu boungalow and we had a great stay. Malibu boungalow is located on the best beach in sihanoukville and all the people are very kind. Great breakfast and very good fresh lime juice!

We enjoyed our stay very much. The reception was very friendly with a fresh lemon juice and English speaking staff. The bungalow was clean and the ocean view was continuously great, even with rainy weather. Breakfast was superb, the staff was very attentive and helpful.
I would recommend this hotel to everyone for the great atmosphere and friendly staff, but: the driveway to the hotel was in a very poor state, expecially when it had rained. The distance to the town center cost 2 dollar one way for the tuktuk. The beach at the bungalows has a lot of rocks on it.

New management took over four months ago and we found the staff friendly and the cleanliness very good. The cottages are rustic but the location is excellent. Set on the headland at the end of a very quiet beach but with easy access to the town.

We recently stayed here for one night in May 2013. After reading some of these reviews, I have to agree with @Fabbie88. This is Cambodia, so you have to accept that you may travel on dirt roads with chickens and cows on them, but that's part of the joy of traveling to a more undiscovered place. Malibu Bungalows are BASIC but lovely accommodations with a fan (no air con), hot water, a comfortable bed, a large porch and a beautiful view of the sea. The property is set on the side of a hill, which we found to be unique and charming. Yes, you have to travel up a long hill and past a farm (not sure what 'chicken-infested' means) to get there, but that wasn't a problem for me.

The manager spoke excellent English, arranged car transportation for us and was incredibly helpful.

Bottom line is if you're a bit of a snob who will not enjoy the rustic charms of basic accommodations in a beautiful surroundings, then certainly don't stay here. But if you don't mind 'roughing it' a bit (for $45/night, which I thought was extremely reasonable) then this is a good consideration for you.
