“This hotel DROVE ME MAD”
Reviewed December 10, 2006

There is no denying that this place is located in a great area and it is a stunning looking hotel. Despite the seaworld looking entrance the pool is great and the beach is beautiful. Lovely white sand and no annoying local sellers as security keeps them out. However after staying here for 5 nights i had the following list of gripe. Some are clearly trivial but they tend to drive you mad when this place markets itself as a 5 star resort it does niggle you a bit:
1) room walls are made of paper - very annoying and you wont sleep past 7am
2) Staff are useless - yes they are very helpful but there are too many of them and the worst it got to was a 15min wait for a drink while the staff discussed it
3) No pool service - pretty easy service in my eyes
4) No bottle opener for minbar - they had to send someone up everytime i wanted a bud!
5) Aircon unit dripped. Was like sleeping with water torture
6) No one spoke english - i saw a couple trying to order a car to drive them around for an hour and after much discussions they were offered the hotel limo!
7) Atmosphere was awful - worse than a libary in the bar
8) Food was poor - Amount of asian food on offer was very limited and evry expensive for what it was!
9) watersports they offer no existant
10) In happy hour they will always try to charge you full price in an attempt to catch you out.

Problem is if you want to stay in a nice, clean hotel then this is the only choice but i just hope they get some competition so they buck their ideas up.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights after touring around Cambodia.

If you are looking for a nice beach side resort you can't go far wrong here. The rooms were clean and pleasantly decorated. Staff were all very helpful. We ate at both the seafood restaurant and in the hotel, and whilest not exceptional, the food was very nice.

It is isolated from the main town, but most people wouldn't go to Sihanoukville to hang around town, you go for the sea and the beaches, and the one attached to the hotel is lovely.

It's not so bad. The service it pretty good and professional. Sokha has a really nice beach, the bay is good for swimming, the buffet in the main restaurant is quite good, there is also a beautiful restaurant on the beach, and the rooms are ok and very clean.
But the whole thing lacks atmosphere. Thr building is just terribly ugly. It would help a bit if they ripped off al the rooftiles and replaced them with something that does not look like plastic. Palmleaves would be nice.
Inside, the bar and the breakfast are awfully sad and gloomy. On some nights they try to cheer up things with a band that plays songs like Una Poloma Blanca, earsplitting loud, and false. Something like Torremolinos in the 70’s. You must be braindead to enjoy this, and, it’s true, many of the guests seem to to.
They are really fond of music in this hotel. There is horrible elevator-music not just in the elevators, but also in the garden, from boxes hidden between the plants. There is no escape.
Then they will charge you US$6 per hour for internet, and US$6.50 for a bottle of water. That borders on the criminal.
Again, it’s not a bad place to relax after a long journee trough Cambodja. But don’t stay too long.
