OK, so this review is for the hotel - not the absolute atrocity that replaces the beautiful Sihanoukville we used to visit years ago. Words cannot describe the disappointment we feel re: what the Chinese have done to this place.

The hotel food was absolutely amazing (best we ate anywhere in our stay), and the staff were really lovely and attentive. We loved the menu and the prices in the hotel, and the breakfast was delicious. The children absolutely loved the pool and the beach (spotless), and had an absolute blast there (and made new friends). The Wi-Fi was also good in the restaurant/bar/beach.

The room ("Bougainvillea") however was a little tired (although clean), but the big disappointment was the air conditioning. After a complaint (our room was 32 degrees the first night, despite having the air con on full), the staff did try to resolve it - but I just don't think the unit was 'man' enough for the high ceilinged family room we were sleeping in. The staff did give us a fan to use, which helped - but really, our sleep was awful there, which was disappointing considering the price.

Having said that, if you are planning to go to Sihanoukville - this is the place I would stay, and I would do it soon. Judging by the look of the half built hotels and roads encircling this last little beach area left, it won't be long until this beach will be gone (or will be so over developed and polluted, it won't be worth going). Heart breaking.

Been in Sihanoukville several times over the last 10 years. I think every year this area is getting worse and one can see that the government has no architectural plan besides making money with Chinese investors who build high buildings and bring thousands of Chinese on usd 1 trips, forcing them later on to buy in expensive Chinese shops and eating in Chinese restaurants...

This hotel is still acceptable but the whole atmosphere here is one of an area that is run down. Dirt on the street, dead rat, garnish all around, empty land full of rubbish, ...

The hotel is getting old, air con is not working well, hot in the room. The food is ok but slow. Service is not motivated...

We stayed for three nights at The Secret Garden. The staff were so helpful and lovely and we felt well looked after especially by the lovely manager. The rooms are lovely and very clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend coming to The Secret Garden.

Hotel located at Otres Beach 2. Around 30 mins driving distance from International airport with tax fare at USD 20 per car. Hotel just right in front of the beach. Good breakfast and good environment. Hotel staffs are quite good and quick response. There is a massage service at the beach with 60 mins at USD10 only. Swimming pool well maintained and my girl swim every afternoon. The room is bungalow type. Twin sharing basis but you can add single bed and it’s spacious enough with add up to 2 single beds since you have total 4 pax.. Bathroom is open air basis. Nearby hotel got few restaurants and also mini grocery shop. If you wish to go to town city, you may ask the receptionist to arrange a tuk tuk service for you at USD 8 per journey. So far we don’t see any 7-11 at town. It had many construction work around. The city is under development now with a lot of China Developer around. That’s why you can see the Chinese people are all around and shops also listed with Chinese wordings. There are around 50 casinos in the city and 70 casinos + hotels are on going for construction.

Had to stop over in Sihanoukville en route to and from Koh ta Kiev. We will not return to this part of Cambodia it is an environmental disaster and Sihanoikville is an ugly concrete sprawl of the worst kind of mass tourism. The Secret Garden is set in a lovely well maintained tropical garden but the immediate surroundings in Otres Beach are post apocalyptic in appearance! The staff were lovely and the food was good and it was good value for money.
