Don Bosco Hotel School
Ranked #4 of 240 Sihanoukville B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 2, 2013

The hotel at the Don Bosco hotel school is managed mainly by the students and offers an excellent quality. The infrastructure is modern, rooms are spacious and have AC, the restaurant offers great food. There is also a very good swimming pool and a spacious gym in an open building in the garden. Guests can use a free shuttle bus to go to one of the beaches of Sihanoukville or to the city center.
The Don Bosco hotel is a very special place. About 100 students from the surrounding areas can learn from international experts how high level hospitality service is performed. All guests of the hotel benefit from that training that makes the service of the hotel outstanding. The school gives children from poor families the opportunity to get a good education with excellent job opportunities.
We could talk to the padre who is in charge of the whole project and some of the foreign experts that work as teachers as well as supervisors.
Although or because the students are highly involved in the hotel, the service and the quality are excellent.

Room Tip: All rooms are good, do not miss to enjoy the excellent pool and the enormous gym.

This was my second visit to Don Bosco and it was just as lovely as the first stay!
My partner and I stayed for 2 weeks and loved it.
This place offers you a 4 star experience for a tiny price. And this is all because they are a hotel school, where locals train in the hospitality industry. It is attached to the Don Bosco technical college which provides free tuition to needy Cambodians, thus providing them with the skills and opportunity to start a rewarding career. Don Bosco itself is a charity and this place therefore provides a great service to the local community.
All the staff are students and they try their best to give you great service. There may be small hiccups with some details, but remember this is a training school for students. The students do work very hard. This can be seen in all the students you meet, from those that serve you in the restaurant, to the students behind the front desk. There is a genuine kindness that comes through and a real desire to provide excellent service. Most of these students will go on to work in top hotels in Cambodia.
This hotel also has a gym and a pool. Both of which we took full advantage of. Through the hotel you rent a motorbike as the hotel is located a couple of km's from the central part of town. We rented a motorbike for only $7 a day and this was a great way to get around. Alternatively the hotel provides a free shuttle service 3 times a day.
Whilst there we enjoyed many delicious meals at the restaurant. Great fresh, quality food at reasonable prices. My favourite was the Grilled Mekong fish with mushroom sauce.
We also took part in a Khmer cooking class which included a market visit and then a couple of hours in the kitchen learning some of the secrets to Khmer cooking! Really recommend doing this!
I highly recommend Don Bosco as a place to stay in Sihanoukville. It is lovely and quiet and the staff are great. They will really do everything they can to make sure you enjoy your stay!

This was a great experience with very friendly helpful staff and students.
Was a pleasure to come back to a swim in the pool. After a informative and comfy
ride with Mr Pork the Tuk Tuk service. This may seem a distance from the town and
beaches but we found that an advantage as we got a good rest. The meals where a
real culinary delight. And we took full advantage of the menu the price of is not expensive.
What can I say but look forward to another stay at Don Bosco

Excellent hotel. The students and the staff are very attentive. They brought towels out for me when I went swimming at dusk after the swimming area had closed, and they went to extra lengths to book my onward travel. I chose this hotel having had a few nights on otres and koh rong and it was very welcome relief - for air con and hot water - but also for such attentive service. Great food and the peanut butter ice cream was to die for!

Don Bosco teaching hotel is very comfortable with well-appointed and spotlessly clean rooms. WIFI was free and worked very well in our room. The location is a disadvantage for guests seeking the beach experience, although the hotel has a shuttle bus that takes you into the local beaches at 10 am, 2pm and 5 pm each day. We were looking for a few days of R&R after a busy time in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh and the Don Bosco was ideal. Because it was low season there were very few other guests, this was a shame because it is so much nicer than many of the hotels at the beach. This is an ideal family hotel. The room prices were very reasonable and the restaurant prices competitive with down town. Breakfast was delicious with excellent coffee fresh from the espresso machine. The students training at the hotel are very friendly and eager to provide service. There is a nice pool at the hotel and it is lovely to sit by the pool and order one of Don Bosco’s delicious home made ice creams. The hotel managers, Michelle and Peter were very welcoming and happy to explain how the hotel worked with disadvantaged youth; their pride in their students was very evident.

The restaurant is part of a training school with European management. Excellent service and food for those who want a change from local cuisine. The pasta and icecream are of European standard. The coffee is prepared in European style if you want a change from the local flavor. The hotel is on the edge of town but definitely worth a visit.

We took a tour given by the students at this school and what a tour it was! Instead of taking our ship's tour (we travelled on the Volendam) we opted for this one offered by the school and were delighted to see how people lived in this 3rd world town -- it was an eye opener! The students excited to practice their english introduced us to their city -- from a fisherman village, to the main shopping area, to their student run gelato cafe -- which was delicious by the way -- to their grand finale -- their hotel/school. Kids compete to attend this school since it gives them a leg up on their careers in hospitality when they grow up -- they treated us to a show and a wonderful 3 course lunch. The hotel in and of itself looked wonderful and I would have liked to stay there. We all enjoyed our tour while others on the ship who went about on their own or took the ship's tour weren't very impressed by the town itself -- but had they been introduced to the area like we were -- they would have walked away with a different perspective.
