The beach itself is perfectly pleasant. The problem is that you can't walk even five steps without repeatedly being asked to come into a restaurant, get your feet massaged, buy sunglasses (which is fun when you are already wearing a pair) or sit on one of the hundreds of beach chairs, each attached to an establishment.
The fact is there is no beach that isn't "owned" by one of the dozens of places by the water so if you are going to go you have no choice but to pay for chairs. Granted, there are not expensive, but that doesn't stop the constant pestering. It's worse than the tuk tuk and moto drivers who won't leave you alone in the street, if that gives you a guide as to the annoyance factor.
