Review of Serendipity Beach

Serendipity Beach
Reviewed August 14, 2013 via mobile

Skip this beach unless you want to see sewage draining into the ocean every few feet. The water is filthy and the beach has garbage on it. Not worth your time. The town is pretty bad too. It's just a party town that caters to lazy tourists who have nothing better to do than drink beers all day. This area is what is wrong with international tourism. Head to Otres beach if who don't want to catch a disease from the water.

There are a few alright bars along here if you want a night out, but the hole place is very average in comparison to other similar south east asian beaches. The food along the beach is very hit and miss, and the kids selling there rubbish along here are a disgrace, the worst i have come across in asia. Be carefull when walking along the beach at night, the locals see girls who have had too much to drink as easy targets to steal from, during the time i was here some friends of mine had 2 bags and a phone stollen during the 3 days we stayed. There are much better places to visit than here.

The beach is pretty okay with many low cost bars along the walk-side.

Chairs are in general free as they are owned by the bars themselves, just buy a drink.

Okay, you will get hawkers of all ages, but really many tourists just ask for problems...just say no thank you and don't even look at them or what they are selling and they will not bother you.

Alternatively most kids have there mothers lurking in the background, I offer one if them 1US$ to keep everyone away all day and they are very happy with that!

The beach food is varied, but in general good value.

Dusk time is great, low volume music to watch the un go down.

The water is as clean as most places, and as far as I know I have NEVER seen sewerage as others comment?

Try and be nice, remember everyone in general is very poor, you will have a great time here.

In comparison to other Beaches around South East Asia this beach is nothing special. During the day there are plenty of satellite chairs to settle into and lots of restaurants serving food and alcohol. But with this comes plenty of beggars and vendors trying to sell you all sorts and this can get very annoying and tiring. The beach itself is lack-lustre, if you feel like going for a swim it is best to walk down the beach away from the sewerage that runs freely in to the waters of Serendipity Beach. My partner and I really disliked this beach, instead we found sanctuary in the much cleaner, less crowded and peaceful atmosphere of Otres Beach. We definitely recommend hiring a motorbike and going to Otres Beach for all your relaxing and sunbaking needs.

The beach is long and has many beach bars running along it. You can sit in one of the chairs or loungers as long as you buy a drink.
The drinks are cheap and so is the food and there is a variety to choose from.
It is perfect for sunbathing or just to chill out.

However this is where locals come to try and make money. Kids selling bracelets and hair bands. Women also offer massages, pedicures , manicures and threading. They will often come up and start stroking your skinn to see if you need something done. Just keep saying no and they will move on. There are alot of them around though so just keep saying no. I can vouch for one girl and a women who don't over charge and are nice people who like to talk they are mary and sam.

Dont let the locals put you off as its really nice to go in the sea and just chill out on the beach. Also they do sell tank tops with the writing on no thanks , no tuk tuk , no massage. They generally leave you alone if you wear it.
These people are just trying to get some form of money to help sustain their living. So if you do want to contribute do try out these services however don't make out that you have alot of money otherwise you get swamped. And always haggle.
