The day was a very early start up at 6 at the shop for 7 .
Left at 8 for the jetty 25 minutes by tuk tuk minibus.
2 and a half hour journey by boat to the island for a local 2 day dive.
Sat at the jetty for the best part of an hour.
Due to circumstances ie choppy weather to get to the other side of the island.
And the snorkellers had to walk to the other side of the island.
Dive staff professional friendly and courteous.
Equipment was in a good working order.
Visibility wasnt great with some mixed levels of marine life .
Average to poor.
At the local island.
The island itself was quite scenic although a guest who had stayed said the food wasnt the greatest.
Not very good beverages on the boat no mention of making a basic cup of tea or coffee , or hot water.
No powdered milk or coffee present.
Now to the real show stoppers for me the guide requested the khmer boat captain to stay local to the dive site.
When we surfaced near to the snorkellers .One who had a slight injury to her leg .
The boat was next to another boat about (might have been having a chat with his friend a fellow boat captain!)15 minutes away by the time he eventaully saw our group. And decided to pick us up.
Ok the day now done we are heading back to the mainland happy days.!
Half an hour or so the boat captain stops and speaks on his phone and turns our boat around .
We are heading back to the jetty to pick someone up.
The company provides a package for a combo open water course and a night or two on the island.

A couple having completed their stay on the island plus an open water course.(Already in the boat picked up from the jetty and returning back with us)
Complained of already waiting 3 hours.
So after the lady tried phoning the office
(Bad signal) and explaining with the help of a local.
We are told they are waiting for someone .
Eventually after tempers are becoming shorter (Mine admittedly due to a slight stomach upset)

After many smiles and a couple of laughs from the non english speaking boat captain and his local buddy .
It becomes apparent that no one! is hitching a lift with us.
After the best part of an hour we eventually get going close to 5.30 having only done 2 dives!
The boat was very slow and bit noisy
And we eventually get back close to 8pm.
Which seems like an eternity we moor up by another boat and have to clamber across building materials to get to the jetty.Roof tiles
Although there was space for a mooring for our boat for some of the ladys in our boat to get ashore more gracefully.
And eventually back in the mini van to the shop.
13 hour day.
I briefly vented my frustrations to the guy in the shop and i was gone into the night .

Our diving trip was great, the coaches were nice and professional. We also traveled with their boat from Koh Rong to Koh Rong Samloem to Robinson bungalows, which were great. Bungalows are new and nicely remote - only guests using the beach. We had a wonderful view to the ocean and sunset from our bungalow.
On the minus side, which reduces the rating will go the problem-solving abilities - one of the boats got broken on the day we had to leave (plane leaving next day) and the staff did not realize the problem at all. You have to take 2 different boats to get back to Sihanoukville from Koh Rong Samloem. As first one was broken we were not able to catch the second one. The lightning storm started and it was dark when we finally got to the Koh Rong with a replacement boat - and there was no boat to take us to the mainland despite the promises of staff. Finally we were able to speak to the manager who told the first boat to take us to mainland. Big thank you for that, also the young captain was very helpful. As it was 11PM when we reached the mainland there was no transport to take us to the hotel (the port is very remote and no public transport can be found). Finally two locals took us on their rollers to the city - which was really playing with luck.
PS definitely go with backpacks - as we observed people with suitcases were really in trouble in islands.
PPS have the important phone no-s of ready in your mobile - there is no wifi and very poor mobile signal in Koh Rong Samloem,

I had a great few dives with this company...the equipment was in good condition, the staff were very professional and everything was well organized! My boyfriend did his open water course with them...his dive instructor Aaron was thorough, fun and t the end he feels confident in his skills. Thank you for a great experience on the beautiful island of Koh Rong!

Booked 2 fun dives with The Dive Shop in Sihanoukville (note that tragically their main office on Serendipity Beach Rd was burnt to the ground along with Monkey Republic afew weeks ago, so they have a temporary office on the same road about 30m further back towards the beach in a restaurant, look for the sign on the footpath)

Professional and courteous from the start, the owner Dennis provided comprehensive information about the day's activities. Note that its quite a long day - 25 minute tuktuk to the port, 2 hour boat ride to Koh Rong, gear up, 30 mins to dive site (approx), back to Koh Rong for lunch, back out for 2nd dive and then 2 hour journey back. The wonderous scenery and breaktaking sunset on the way back made every minute worthwhile. Theres also the alternative to go out and stay on the island overnight if you have the time.

The team were very safety conscious, really detailed briefing and small group numbers. All the gear was in very good condition. Its worth commenting that whilst I was there in April, the visilbility was very poor (3-5m) so its quite difficult to see much, but theres some interesting micro-life & nudibranches that make the dives worthwhile.

Husband did his PADI Open Water and Advanced Open Water course with The Dive Shop. His instructor Peter was excellent, very thorough, cut no corners and gave him the confidence he needed to start his diving career/obsession. All the staff we met were really friendly, approachable and the business is very professional.

All the equipment was well maintained, safety was paramount, and now he is eager to visit Indonesia and do some more diving there. Dennis at the The Dive Shop was right when he said scuba diving was a very dangerous sport because it can turn into a very expensive obsession!

We went on a 2 night Liveaboard trip (I went snorkelling) and we loved it so much we booked another one for a couple of days later. Both times we had an absolutely amazing time, the food was fantastic, the dive sites and snorkelling was out of this world in places, and although it might seem a bit expensive, we thought it was actually excellent value for money. And we saw dolphins, which was an unexpected bonus!

We would defintely recommend The Dive Shop for PADI courses and their Liveaboard trips and you can also book cheap accommodation on Koh Rong Samloem through them.
