Let me start with maybe the most important thing: the people at this resort are the nicest folks. In fact, the folks in Kernville are just plain friendly. And the resort is out of the town, nestled between a campground and the water district. Very quiet. Squirrels and birds abound. Great place to bring a dog.
We stayed in rooms 12 and 14. They were HUGE. 12 easily accommodated our family of five and the kitchenette was well-stocked and in good shape. The beds were super comfortable. Parking is right next to the room, which was wonderful.
The pool is large. It was almost too cold to swim in, but that's a mountain resort pool for you. There isn't really easy river access, but the kids loved scrambling over the rocks.
The resort is undergoing renovations, so there are piles of dirt and rocks all around. And no grass. This was fine with us, but some people may need something more.
This last part is SUPER important: some of the rooms--12 and 14 for sure--have giant sky lights. My three kids were awake at 5:40 each morning. It was unavoidable. It was so bright. When my parents checked out, the lovely lady at the front told them that some of the rooms do not have skylights. If you are going from April-October, make sure you ask for a room with no skylight. Unless you like being up with the fish...
