What a great motel to stay at. located right in the middle of down town kernville, walking distance to everything possible. rooms are very clean, comfortable, modern. office personal extremely nice and informitive. we came up from Los Angeles with 4 other couples each having our own rooms, and out of the 5 rooms we all had we were all very happy with our rooms and our stay. the river is right across the street running thru a nice big park. kernville was very nice and relaxing.

Let me start by saying the town is wonderful and the people overall warm and welcoming. The inn itself is nice and in a great location. Overall upkeep is good. The rooms are overpriced for what you get, but that is a minor quibble.

The real issue is the poor management and complete lack of customer service. When we checked in and went to our first room, it was already occupied. But, they didn't bat an eye and gave us another. Unfortunately, our bad luck was that the incredibly cheap shower head fell apart. We did not get any apologies, and in fact they charged my credit card for $150 after we left. When I called to inquire and complain, they didn't care. I did a little research and found the cheap shower head for $25 and wrote them a letter with a photo and the cost. I didn't really expect a full refund (although they should, it was not my fault), but was hoping for a little break and perhaps just saying something like "we are sorry for any inconvenience" or anything along the lines of customary customer service. I got nothing except a flat refusal and was essentially told "too bad".

If you are looking for accommodations where they respect and appreciate the guests, look elsewhere in this great little town.

What a quaint, quiet, wonderful place. The whispering pines, the river right across the way, rooms facing the town square...awesome. A great restaurant right next door. A good starting place for wonderful rides up the mountain to the 100 Giant trail. Rooms are tidy, clean, well stocked, inviting, lots of character and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. It has become our get away.

The stay at this motel was great---clean rooms overlooking the river, friendly staff in the office and very helpful as to what to see and do in the valley. Right in town so can walk instead of drive to shops and restaurants.
Will return .

We had gone to Kernville to check out a site for our 2009 conference and there was supposed to be a small "ghost town" and thought it might be an interesting possibility.

We stayed at the Kernville Inn on our first night. I was pleasantly surprised at the accommodations. It had a lot of bikers staying there. I didn't know if there was a biker ride going on or what but they were quiet enough during the evening and that was great. Parking in the area was crazy. If you didn't get your spot early, you may not have one even if you are staying on the property.

The beds were comfortable, linens clean. No curtains but it was okay for one night.

The only REAL complaint was the air conditioner. It never really got cold and in 100 degree weather during the day and high 60's at night, we wanted cold and it just never got cold. You couldn't control the coldness nor could you get the conditioner to get cold so we were troopers and didn't complain but that could be an issue for some.

A really minor complaint was that while they supplied shampoo in those trial sized packets, it was hard to get them open even with your teeth. It was not easy when you are wet in the shower and can't even tear open the packet to get the shampoo out.

All-in-all, the stay was okay. Ghost town didn't work out but got some bargain buys on his antique jewelry.

  • Liked — It was very comfortable
  • Disliked — The air conditioning was not very good

The manager at the Kernville Inn as of 4/20/08 doesn't want your business.
She will make you wait minutes while she continues personal conversation on the phone.
She will threaten to charge you more money if you insist on being charged the correct amount.
She will not provide sheets for late comers and will not apologize for making the night of your children uncomfortable. She does not apologize for your flooded bathroom and will, in fact, gets snooty and irate for mentioning it. I mentioned it twice in an attempt to clear up a different complicated and confused situation. Her response: "There were lots of bathrooms flooded this morning. You're the only one making a stink about it"
She refuses to acknowledge that honest mistakes in reservations could be made on both sides and will blame you for criminal behavior if there is confusion about your reservations.

Stay away until they have a new manager!!!!!!!!

I've never a written a review before, but I thought it was important to pass along this info. We stayed at the Kernville Inn and had several problems. On a positive note, the rooms are large and have nice front proches. The pool is clean and the grounds well-maintained. Let me start with the minor issues. When we arrived the TV and light were not working in our room. The manager said she wasn't sure how to fix the TV but try wiggling the wires. That did the trick. After several calls the light was fixed, but in a way that if the fan were on ( a necessity for sleeping) the light stayed on. We had to take the bulb out and do without decent lighting for the evening. In addition, the AC was VERY loud and the beds uncomfortable.

Really those things are minor and would not compel me to write. But the following would. On the first full day of our stay a plumber came to work on some pipes in the room. We did not request such help, by the way and the sinks and shower were fine. We couldn't use our room for a couple of hours in the middle of that day (with 2 kids and 95 degree temps). The manager said we could use a bathroom in another room if needed, but the work needed to be done and there wasn't anything she could do. I suggested giving us another room or a discount and she scoffed. Since the plumber was there, housekeeping never came and we ran out of toilet paper. When I went to get some from the front desk, a new employee said she did not know where toilet paper was located so she gave me half a roll from her bathroom. When we checked out I reminded the manager (who originally told me she was the owner and later fessed up to lying about that) about our disappoitnment with not being able to use the room and not having it cleaned, she merely shrugged. I plan on writing the owners, but wanted to post this as well to warn people away from this place.
