“sweet and simple!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2013

We have been going to Kernville for a few years now. We love the Kernville Inn. It is very clean quiet and simple! we have figured out what room is our favorite so we try to get it when we go. So far if you call enough ahead most likely it is available. We went for our 6 year Anniversary and loved it. I would recommend this place to anyone who just wants to get away for a few days. We are headed there this coming weekend so it will be nice. Thanks for making it such a great place to stay.

Room Tip: If you are a couple with no kids it is nice to stay in the rooms over by the office. The map on the...

We came up without reservations on a Thursday night before the start of a holiday week (4th of July). There were no standard rooms available, but there was a king, non-smoking, with a kitchen and river view. As it turned out it was an end unit (#169) across the street from the park and the Kern River. The normal weeknight rate was $139 per night, but the desk discounted the rate to $125 plus tax. I could not have been happier with the room and the location. The room was on the end so only had neighbors on one side (they were quiet), the river was across the street and visible from the porch and room, the street had little traffic and the park was quiet. Parking was right outside the unit. The porch had two comfy chairs with ottomans and a table, perfect for relaxing in the evening air and listening to the nearby river (the frogs and crickets even start up at night). The room was very clean and I did not hesitate to walk around barefoot. The bed actually seemed like a real king sized bed (I swear they downsize them elsewhere) and the mattress was quite comfortable. There were two chairs by the window in the main room and two chairs at a small dining room table in the kitchen. The air conditioning worked wonderfully, which was great since it was 104 degrees outside. The bathroom was clean and comfortably furnished with plenty of towels. No problem getting hot water in the shower and the temperature stayed consistent. Overall, I could not have been more pleased. The grounds are very lovely offering grassy areas and even a small park with BBQs and picnic tables for guests. The Kernville Park along the river is right across the street. The Kernville Inn is conveniently located right in downtown Kernville. Cheryl's Diner is right next door and you can (and should) walk over to the Kern Valley Museum. We will definitely return!

Room Tip: #169 has good views of the park and river, is an end unit, and has a nice porch.

We have stayed here many times in the past, but it seems the service gets worse and worse every time. Each year our group of about FORTY have our yearly weekend get-a-way in Kernville. First they mess-up a few or our groups reservations by booking for only one night, (this after they mentioned they were with our group) They had to find other accommodations on a Friday?Secondly they tell us no music at the pool, but no sign telling you this. Might be splitting hairs, but when you have a large group booking year after year you should be a bit more accommodating. I don't think they will be getting any more of our business. To bad, because it is centrally located, so we can fish, raft, or shop. SERVICE IS KING!!! just not here.

Room Tip: Find another hotel!!!!!!

The ladies at the front desk were polite and helpful. The room #176 was clean but I would still wear socks. The remote was sticky and the chairs were stained, but I didn't go to sit and watch tv... Location was great just a stroll to the river.

Clean, good location near the river, refrigerator in the room, helpful staff, all at a good price. Rooms are a bit tired (paint, furniture) and comfort amenities are at a minimum. Overall a good deal for decent lodging in a fun little town, would return.

I have stayed here several times while motorcycling and my only complaint is that you must pre-pay when you make your reservations. The rooms are nice - and there are a variety of types listed on their website. Make that reservation early during popular times.
They have free WiFi, but the signal is low when you are far from the office. If that is important ask about it when you book the room.

Room Tip: If WiFi is important as for a room near the office

This rustic well kept inn in the mountain town of Kernville east of Bakersfield, CA. is a great place to stay in the center of everything. The rooms have nice decks outside the french doors they have rooms that open to the main street but my room was in the back which was nice they do have plasma TV's one thing I might note to them get rid of the bedspreads most places nowadays do not use them. This room had a little kitchen I guess for ones that might use it I never do. It was clean and the architecture is like logs on the outside it gives a mountain feel to it. The grounds are well maintained. For a Friday night room was 149.00 before taxes. Kernville is famous for its kayaking and white water rafting on the Kern River and there is a wonderful Kern River Brewery that has an excellent ale.
