This place is a tragedy! I wanted to love it and did love certain things about it. The grounds are truly lovely, lots of ivy, flowers and fountains. The place looks exceptionally pretty both indoors and in the common areas both during the evening and daytime. Perfect little wine bar for enjoying a glass of the local product. Charming bartender. Nice breakfast. Helpful, friendly staff -- not the most experienced -- but very nice people. Unpretentious and not full of wankers like say, a place over in Napa (that shall remain nameless) and is completely filled with scenesters from LA. But I digress...

Sadly, the room was a total disaster. We booked ourselves into the Tuscany Suite which was supposed to be their best. It was dank, musty, and reeked of carpet freshener or some other air freshener. I will admit that the decor in part is just not my taste, however, it is also outdated, uncomfortable and well, I'm sorry to say, tacky. My husband and I both agreed that it looked better after a few drinks in the dark. They definitely have a few nice antiques, but they are mixed in with some really unfortunate pieces. The steam room and indoor hottub area has a major mildew problem. They should just close these areas instead of having guests experience this.

Considering the poor quality of the room and the age of their facillities, the prices are also completely out of line. $625 a night is ridiculous for this place. And I will happily pay more than that for the right place.

Like other people mentioned, the road noise is intense. We were insulated from it by being in a room as far away from the road as possible, but could still hear it on our balcony and it also took all the fun out of relaxing and enjoying the grounds during the day.

The dank musty room was what drive us out of this place. We ended up leaving after the first night and going elsewhere.

What can I say? We absolutely adored this place. We stayed for two evenings and it was incredible. The views, the room itself (we were in room 19, an amazing room with the water wheel right outside our window). We loved it here. I will say that the staff was not the most knowledgeable (we were told they changed management), but they tried and they were very sweet. Bring maps, the staff is not too great with directions.

What made this place amazing was that they didn't nickel and dime you for everything. Great breakfast in the morning, which was compliments of them. I also enjoyed the cordials set out in the lobby, which we brought up to our room as a night cap.

The hotel set up a chauffered wine tour which was the best part of this vacation. They only use one company--Ask for Dave the driver. He was the best!!!!!!!!! He took us to vineyards not even on the map. Once thinking we were going to wine country to visit our favorite wines, it turned out the secret to making the most of your time is to visit wineries you cannot find at home!

I will say the bar closes TOO early, but both nights she made exceptions for us. The female bartender is SUPER knowledgeable about wines.

I had several treatments at the spa--quite possibly the best massage I have ever had.

This is a unique experience. It may not be for everyone. We also stayed at the Fairmont, which for the same price does not even walk in the shadow of this hotel. For peace, tranquility and love, I highly reccomend this location even for one night.

A lovely hotel that is friendly, comfortable, and "right sized" meaning bigger than a B&B and smaller than most resort properties. The spa is outstanding and they have "nice" down to an art form. The breakfasts are included and are clever and delicious. The bar, and bartender,Joe, make you feel like you're in a friend's living room.
The only complaint, and it's modest, is the lighting in the bathroom is really poor.

This is a beautiful Italian villa! Secluded (very easy to miss the sign), quiet and tranquil atmosphere that shields the noise from the outside world. Immediately walking in the inn you will think you are in a different country. Everyone is relaxed and courteous. The center of the inn is a fountain where they serve breakfast.

They also have a pool (with a small waterfall), a couple hot tubs, a bar, a restaurant which we did not try as at the time they were serving just BBQ food. One thing to mention is if you want to use their spa service, book as early as possible (was fully booked when we were there.)

On a small note, this place is covered with a lot of trees so it appears to be a bit dark even on a very sunny day.

The room is absolutely stunning and spacious, with very comfortable bed, fireplace (decoration only), a few books, complimentary newspaper. Also, the fact that it does not have a TV but with a whirlpool and CD player system instead in the suite is just perfect to make you focus on the person you are with!

The complimentary bottle of Kenwood Inn wine is also a nice touch.

They also have a computer that can be used for checking emails and surfing the internet (since there is no wi-fi), which is good to keep the place to as natural as it could be!

My wife and I just got back from a 2 night stay and the reviews (which seem almost too good to be true) were 100% accurate. We stayed in room 20 (highly recommended) which was a beautifully furnished, quite large room on the third floor (highest level) which afforded gorgeous views of the Sonoma hillsides. Everything at Kenwood is thoughtfully executed with romance in mind….from the selection of CDs in the room to the private spa room to the scented candles. There really isn’t much I can add to the previous reviews….the service was gracious, the en suite massages heavenly, the breakfasts delicious, the property gorgeous. Kenwood succeeds in creating a feeling of a home away from home by getting all of the little things right: the sherry in the lobby, the water fountains throughout the property, the fruit bowl in the courtyard, the hand painted signage. And the room and overall property are in excellent condition….obvious time and attention are spent on maintenance and upkeep.

The only detraction from the property is its unfortunate proximity to the main road. Obviously there is nothing to be done about that although the water elements throughout the property do a good job a masking much of the road-noise. Bottom line was that we did hear road noise even though our room was on the highest level in the back of the property. But on balance it did little to detract form a perfect stay at a (nearly) perfect inn. We have stayed at many of the top inns, hotels and resorts around the world and I would place Kenwood among the very best. In speaking with the front desk upon check-out we were told that Kenwood will soon become part of the Small Luxury Hotels marketing group so this semi-secret gem may become quite popular in the near future. Regardless, we couldn’t recommend Kenwood highly enough and have already penciled in a return trip for next fall.

My wife and I stayed here as part of our honeymoon and it was a highlight. All the good reviews are right on. We had champagne and choclate by the fire and I had them spread rose pedals before we came. In fact I called 20 minutes ahead of my arrival and they had all the candles going. Very nice touch. I did hear the overnight construction from the road which was disappointing, but I'm a light sleeper anyways.

Would recommend anyone to stay here!!

The Kenwood Inn & Spa, about 15 minutes north of the town of Sonoma, far exceeded our expectations. It is in the style of an Italian Inn with a beautiful interior courtyard and fountain. The room was as romantic as they come with abundant candlelight, a fire place, luxurious bedding, jacuzzi, etc. Gourmet (but not heavy) breakfast is included. We took advantage of the adjacent spa for a massage and found the service to be first class all the way.

We have stayed in four and five star hotels in Europe and the US, and found the Kenwood Inn about as good as it gets. The hot tub and heated pool are in lovely settings and we were the only ones using them. The water wheel adds even more to the ambience.

This Inn is very conveniently located to all the wineries of Sonoma Valley. While it is right on the main road, inside it is quiet - definitely a lovely haven. We give our highest recommendation for wine country travelers.
