“Local Tradition”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

My family has a summer home in this area and it's a huge part of our tradition to visit the Tiger Bar on the first day of every visit. This is a locals joint--make no mistake--and the locals are made of rugged stuff. I've seen other reviewers complain about how 'noisy' this establishment is--well, yes. It's a bar. People are drinking in this bar, like they do. While it is a restaurant and good for family dining, it is not ABOUT family dining. You might have to explain to your children what a real biker is and why those nice men have all those tattoos. Visitors really should know that going in. Summer will see a rowdier crowd but snowboarders can be rambunctious, too. The food has remained consistent for years--the Mexican selections are really good (but they do not serve guacamole for whatever reason and the salsa is not fresh made--also for whatever reason). The standout dishes are the meatloaf, the steak sandwich, the fries and the burgers. The meatloaf is truly killer and highly recommended. One of my regular companions tells me the Bloody Mary is stellar (I don't drink them so I can't say personally). All the drinks are poured generously and reasonably priced. Service will be hit or miss depending on when you go in, but I've never had a terrible experience there (even when they're super busy). The servers are always friendly. The Tiger is basically the only game in town (yes, there's another eatery nearby but I'm not a fan and their hours are squirrely so you can't count on them being open). It is a sports bar; it is a locals hangout--ergo, it WILL be loud. My favorite time to stop in is 3:00pm on a weekday. It's still busy, but much quieter and you can relax with your food and cocktails. Hey, you're on vacation--there shouldn't be a strict schedule. Walk up to the Tiger Bar and take a booth by the window that looks out at Carson Peak. Order a cocktail or one of the delicious local beers and a plate of nachos. Talk with your friends. Take it easy. You'll be glad you came in.

“Mixed service and quality, depending how busy they are”
Reviewed April 27, 2014

The food and prices are great. Service however is very variable depending how busy they are, and they do run out of menu items. Staff are also stressed when busy, so can be a little off-hand. Be aware this bar gets VERY noisy, which drove me and my wife out very quickly on at least one occasion!

“Friendly”
Reviewed March 25, 2014

We got in to town late and technically after dinner time but they made an exception for us. We found the food to be good at a decent price and the staff to be extremely friendly.

The photos posted on this site are not from the tiger bar and café. Tiger bar serves their food on OVAL PLATES not round ones as posted on this site. However their food is great.
