Every year, we try to do an annual pilgrimage to Julian, California, a small former mining town in the foothills of the mountains east of San Diego. Our restaurant of choice the last several times has been the Julian Grille, built in a charming old house with a lovely garden and enclosed outdoor seating area. Some weekends there is a wait for a table, and the wait is worth it, but today on Columbus Day we got seated immediately. The service was good and friendly and the food was delightful, with quite a varied menu. I had the tuna melt with swiss on rye, along with squash soup and wine, and another of us had the sweet and sour chicken. A great place for a splendid meal!
