“Wonderful Cabin in the Pines”
Reviewed December 8, 2013

We stayed in the Eagle In The Pines cabin that you can rent from the owners. It is 2-3 miles outside the downtown to the east, separate from the main hotel. Very cozy! Clean, two wonderful bedrooms and attached bathrooms. Beautiful furnishings and tile. Small but fully equipped kitchen that is perfect for making meals to eat at the nice dining table. Nice view from the front deck. Very private. Just a wonderful stay! Perfect for two couples, but reasonably priced for just one.

One night stay early November after a very enjoyable and educational visit to the California Wolf Center just a few miles away. Jim and Julie are excellent hosts who provided an exceptional breakfast in very comfortable accommodations filled with sweet treats and three lovable golden retrievers who are friendly and considerate. Located very close to the center of town yet still very relaxing. The wood burning stone fireplace in the Winter Room was setup so that it was very easy to start and maintain. Each room has a binder with extensive information regarding the surrounding area. Jeremy's on the Hill is a very good for lunch or dinner, a short drive away.

Room Tip: In colder months, the Winter Room is hard to beat. For space and comfort, the Spring Room but it do...

Our family enjoyed this lovely bed and breakfast in Julian for the first time last week-end. We were not disappointed at the setting, views, and common areas. Especially great in my opinion for families. We filled the house and were welcomed by Jim and Julie with such warmth, you would think we were long lost friends coming home for a reunion. There are just 4 rooms. Comfortable beds, fireplaces, private decks and lounging. Wonderful barbecue area and swimming pool. Twas not the season for the pool this time, but I can certainly see a return visit in the summer months. One last hint for you.....the food is exquisite! Best that we have enjoyed for breakfast in Julian.

Room Tip: the common area and one room is on the second level. All rooms are nice, named by the seasons. Easy...

This place is a great escape. Jim and Julie make it a great experience. The Winter room has a real fireplace they ready everyday and is a real treat. My wife had a massage and really enjoyed it on the porch.

Jim and Julie make a great breakfast and will do anything to make it a great stay.

If you have been to Idyllwild and been disappointed, Julian will make it a true country experience.

We will not go anywhere else.

Room Tip: Winter Room

When you arrive you're greeted by Jim and/or Julie as well as Luke, Will, and Grace, their three golden retrievers! For our first stay in Julian we selected Eaglenest because of the Goldens, we return to Eaglenest not only because of the Goldens, but Jim and Julie are fabulous hosts. Our most recent visit was our 5th. Julie has made us several reservations for dinner, buggy rides, and even picked up our tickets to the Julian melodrama.

In your room there will be some type of pie waiting for you. Dutch apple and caramel apple are two that we've had in our room. There's a downstairs pantry room that has a refrigerator with ice cream, bottled water, and sodas and of course there's a coffeemaker in the room. In the afternoons Jim sets out some type of fresh baked treat. His chocolate brownies and chocolate chip cookies are out of this world.

The rooms are well maintained. The sheets on your king size bed are excellent. We've even asked Julie where she got them so we could get some. While you're enjoying breakfast the "bed fairy" makes your bed and tidies the room. The bath towels are heavenly, better than you find in many four and five star hotels. The soap is specially made for Eaglenest by a woman in Escondido (at least I think Jim told me Escondido).

Eaglenest is a small B&B, only four rooms, which allows you to visit with all the other guest over Jim's wonderful breakfast. Fresh squeezed orange juice, cider, and coffee are always served before and with breakfast. We'll go to breakfast about 30 minutes early to visit with Will and Grace, and sometimes Luke, and probably distract Jim from his cooking (though we try not to).

Two words of caution, breakfast is served upstairs, so if you have difficulty climbing stairs be careful. Also, if you don't like well-behaved, friendly, loving dogs, you may want stay elsewhere. Unfortunately, if you do, you'll be missing out on the wonderful experience of Eaglenest.

Jim and Julie are consummate hosts and love hosting you at Eaglenest. Thank you Jim, Julie, Luke, Will, and Grace for another wonderful visit. We will be returning, hopefully in the spring!

Room Tip: Breakfast is served upstairs and the Spring room is the only room upstairs and the only room with a...

Just returned from a 2 night stay Eaglenest Bed and Breakfast in Julian and couldn't wait to post my review. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this place. From the welcoming committee (Will and Grace - beautiful, well behaved Golden Retrievers) to the departure committee (Luke came along this time), we absolutely fell in love with this place! The owners, Jim and Julie, do not hover over guests. While they are near by when they are needed, they do not live in the house.

When we arrived, there were freshly made, still warm, ooey, gooey chocolate brownies to welcome guests (along with the welcoming committee, of course). Jim gave us a tour of the house, showed us "the pantry" which was really a small room stocked with a refrigerator with milk, for the brownies, and the chocolate chip cookies provided our second day, as well as ice cream, soft drinks, and bottled water. A cabinet held soap, shampoo, and other small toiletry items in case we needed more than what was already provided in our room.

Our room (we were in the Spring room - one of 4 rooms and the only one upstairs where the living and dining room are) was cute and comfortable. Upon closer inspection, I was impressed by how our room and bath was maintained. Jim and Julie obviously take great pride in their business as the sheets and towels were the same quality I've had at 5 star hotels. We had a fireplace and a small living nook next to our room. It contained the TV, a sleeper sofa, chest of drawers and a chair. Three people could easily share this room.

All rooms have king beds and their own bath...no need to share with other guests. The other 3 rooms are on the ground floor. I must caution that Eaglenest is not handicap accessible. Breakfast is served upstairs in the dining room on the second floor. A person with limited mobility might find it difficult to climb the narrow stairs.

The two breakfasts we had were very well prepared, generous portions and extremely tasty! They DO accommodate dietary restrictions as well. It's the little things that matter, and I must say, the fresh squeezed orange and grapefruit juices are very hard to resist.

We enjoyed being treated to all kinds of love from the 3 dogs who are there when the owners are making breakfast or checking guests in. If you do not enjoy being around dogs, don't stay here, but you would be missing a wonderful opportunity to be around well-behaved, loving animals. We already told them ( the dogs that is) that we will be back to see them soon.

Thank you Jim, Julie, Luke, Will and Grace for a wonderful weekend!

Room Tip: The Spring room gives you a little extra space, is upstairs, and only $20 more a night than the Summ...

My husband and I enjoyed a relaxing time at the eaglenest. Julie and Jim were wonderful hosts, and the dogs great fun. It really felt like home. The bed was so comfy and the ambiance cozy. Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the upstairs suit, which is right off the sitting room and balcony.
