“Just Passable”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

Knew it was going to be interesting when the check-in included passing info between bullet proof glass... The room was dingy and dirty. The sirens of ambulances going to the nearby hospital fortunately diminished as the night wore on. I dont think one would plan a visit here... But the pickings are pretty thin and the best part was they didnt gouge on the nightly rate.

This is your traditional older "motel" that has been patched and repaintef many times. Likely built in the 50's with light green and black tiles in the bath and other decorations of that era. It is "Indian" owned. The check in was fine, the owner was very nice. If you are just looking for a bed, shower and roof over your head near Joshua Tree NP, then this place will do just fine.

We can only agree with most reviews here already posted: a super clean and comfortable place to spend the night on a low budget. Owners are wonderful, friendly, dedicated and attentive. Save yourself a drive to go look any further and enjoy a great night sleep in comfortable king-size bed. As mentioned by others, it is dated regarding furniture and looks, but everything works and is clean. Flat-screen TV (we did not use, though...) and wifi. Parking in front of your door. Walking distance to several eateries, such as the Saloon, which has very good & fresh food.
If you like good food and coffee, this little funky town has more to offer than Twenty-nine Palms! Check it out...

We stayed here based on recommendations from Tripadvisor and it's as described by others. Very basic, but clean and comfortable. The owner was indeed very helpful suggesting places to eat and recommended a sunset visit to the park. It turned out it was a great idea to see things at sunset as the dynamic is pretty impressive. We would not have done it if he had not recommended it, but sure glad he did. We stayed on a Monday evening, and the room rates were somewhat "negotiable" from the listed rates - YMMV.

We'd gladly stay here again!

There's not much in the way of lodging in Joshua Tree, but if you're interested in a Mom-N-Pop motel from the 60's, the Safari Inn works just fine. The owner is very friendly and very helpful. The place is clean clean clean, but shows its age with some of the furnishings and fixtures. This is the sort of place your Mom and Dad ( or Grandma) might have stayed in 50 years ago, except now you get cable TV and Wifi. You can walk to the park visitor center and to a number of restaurants. Hwy 62 is noisy all night, which limits you to heat or AC.
If you're looking for a chain motel, this is NOT it -- try 29 Palms or Yucca Valley. BTW, chain restaurants abound about 5 miles west in Yucca Valley.
I enjoyed my stay at the Safari Inn and would stay again. I prefer Mom-n-Pops when traveling solo; chains when with my wife.

We were on a jaunt from Anza Borrego to Joshua Tree, tired and desperate for a place to stay. Saw the ratings on Safari Motor Inn and called. The owner was so helpful, had a nice room with very comfortable beds all set for us. Had a little trouble with Garmin directions, and he helped us get in and tried to rectify the situation.
Gave us great breakfast coupons for a delish local place.
The rooms are not fancy and are dated, but to me, the owner's helpfulness and the cleanliness trump decor anytime!

This motel is situated in the perfect spot within Joshua Tree. It's close to the entrance and not far from all the local eateries. The room was very clean and had nice warm blankets on top of a heater/AC that worked extremely well. Don't expect an extra fancy place but this was perfect for what my friend and I needed while we were on a photo shoot in Joshua Tree. Clean room, comfortable, clean and warm beds. I only put 4 stars for 2 things, the heater in the bathroom unfortunately didn't work and the shower didn't put out the hottest water or the strongest stream. Regardless, I would stay here again for another excursion out to the park and the owners were really nice and it provided us with what we needed for a one-night stay.
