Owner description: As of November 3rd, we are open only on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays (closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) through March 15th. In addition we are open on state holidays: January 1 & 19, February 16, March 31, May 25, July 4th, September 7, November 11, Closed Thanksgiving & Christmas Day. Open December 22nd, 23rd, 24th and from December 26th to January 2nd. Because of Sacramento budget cuts, our days of operations vary with the season. Originally built by Russians in 1812, Fort Ross became a state park in 1909. Today the 3,400 acre park offers pristine natural landscapes as well as historic structures and exhibits that bring to life the former Imperial Russian settlement, early California Ranch era, and the Kashia territory. Our visitor center showcases a museum, bookshop, and an 18-minute video introducing the park's history. Some points of interest: Russian Orthodox chapel, replica Russian-style windmill, historic buildings and exhibits, cannons, historic cemetery and orchard, and a San Andreas Fault marker. You can also enjoy Sandy Cove Beach and numerous trails. Activities include hiking, swimming, marine mammal watching, and more.

The drive was beautiful on winding roads that ended amidst 12 darling deer grazing at the entrance of Fort Ross. Our wine server, Kristen could not have been more charming and the wine and cheese plate was only upstaged by the views. You could see the ocean through the forest on the lovely deck. A must visit before your romantic stay at Timber Cove, an easy drive 5 minutes away.

Hello DonnaDayb,

Thank you for your review, though I think you meant to put it under the Fort Ross Vineyard & Tasting Room :) Also a truly wonderful location, with great wine, but for our future visitors here at Fort Ross State Historic Park, you won't find any wine here unless you come during out Harvest Festival which is in October.

A bit of good news from Fort Ross, we are now open Thursday through Monday 10 am- 430 pm until Labor Day 2014!
We are all so pleased to be open more days for our visitors.
Thanks for all your support!

Well preserved and intriguing presentation in a stunning setting. The Russians were here before the homesteaders and the built a fine outpost. See California's first glass windows and learn about the immigrants who got along with the native Indians instead of subjugating them like the Spanish. The views and walking paths are worth it too. A photographic gem!

Just going crazy from the fact how far did Russians go. Hello mother Russia. Special thanks to the personnel, extremely nice and sweet people, really loving this place and willing to share as much information as possible.

Fort Ross is a great stop. The visitor center has a nice little museum exhibit. The Fort has been well preserved and nicely cleaned up. Some of the rooms have been furnished as they may have been. The views were beautiful. There are tables for picnicking and plenty of parking. The day we went, there were only a few other people. In addition to the Fort Ross, the park also has a few hiking trails and beach access for divers.

A well maintained historic site with a great little museum, gift and book shop and small cinematic history of the native American and Russian community who lived and worked here. The Fort has been restored and gives a fascinating glimpse of life for the pioneers of the 18th century.
Wonderful walks and the bluffs with views of sea stacks and the Pacific complete the pleasure.
