I had a weekend to kill during a business trip and decided on the CA coast. It is admittedly difficult to find anything on a July weekend there so I was happy to get anything.
The room was fine but a little dark, especially in cloudy weather, and could have used a makeover for the paint and the bathroom. Also the terrace is not exactly inviting. Also there is only an ocean view for the cottages in the first row, not further back.

We live a couple of hours away from the coast and knew about the Fort Ross Lodge only because my husband was up there 10 years ago roofing the Cal Trans building nearby. He thought the views were great & wanted to do something nice for my birthday, so we went for a romantic getaway (aka: get away from the kids, lol).

We splurged for the ocean view (room 14) and hot tub on the deck. A bit pricy, but if you go during the week, you can stay for 2 days at the same price as one night on the weekend. Very secluded room and pretty quiet, we felt like we were alone, though there were people at the other end.

I recommend bringing food (there's a small fridge and a Weber BBQ with charcoal and utensils provided) if you want to relax and have some wine, you don't want to drive. The nearest restaurant is at Alexanders, Timber Cove and it sucked. The next restaurant after that one is in Gualala, about 35 winding miles up the road.

We will probably make this trip again and will be happy to stay at Fort Ross Lodge again.

This place was disgusting, filthy and needed a good cleaning. We didn't pay to sleep in a cabin, but for over $100, we expected to have a clean room. The place was falling apart, horribly outdated and in need of repairs. Do yourselves a favor and drive 30 minutes more either way and get some better lodging right on the beautiful CA coast. It's a shame, because if the owners sold the place, or spent a little money and updated the rooms, gave them a good Cloroxing, and had a better attitude toward their guests, this COULD be a great place.

It is not in Jenner, but just north of Fort Ross, near Timber Cove Inn.
The owners seem to play the game of offering a choice of very cheap or a very expensive room, but when pressed may come up with something reasonable.
Our room was across the road on The Hill. It was very quiet and had a very pretty setting with lawn and forest and ocean view. The places on the ocean side were not much closer to the ocean, and looked like rows of tacky little condos.
Ours was like a little house trailer inside, with no closet. The inside walls were covered with what looked like white exterior fake wood siding. It did have a little fireplace and large picture windows. There were glaring outdoor lights that shined in at night through the door window, and the shower took five minutes to get hot water. The owners are helpful, but if you need anything, there is no phone to call for help.
Alexander's at Timber Cove is the only restaurant nearby, and it was very good.

My honey and I wanted to get away for a quick romantic escape at the last minute which limited our choices. I specifically was searching for a room with a hot tub. I contacted them by phone and made a reservation for a king/hot tub room and we made our way out there. The drive is twisty and nauseating but once there...wow. We pulled in and the manager was very helpful. We were allowed to check in 2 hours early which made us happy. The room (14) had wonderful cathedral ceiling, the shower/tub was needing some attention, fridge and microwave with wet bar, fireplace and bbq. No wine or apples were waiting like others had posted. It was so quiet and private I was comfortable enough to hop in the hot tub naked as the day I was born and wasnt worried about prying eyes. The towels the hotel supplies suck for lack of a better word, so bring your own. Also if you plan on using the BBQ bring your own lighter fluid. The bed was nice, and the comforter was nice and modern. There are extra blankets in the room which were soft and cozy. Our room came with a screen on the slider so we left the door open and had the heater running. Dining options are limited, we went to Guala Bones Roadhouse for dinner and Timber Cove Inn for breakfast. We will be back! The views were amazing. If you can overlook some little flaws then you can enjoy this place.
