“Underewhelmed and Overpriced”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

We stopped in here a little late in the evening as we were traveling through town. We chose the place simply because we could see it from the highway.

The place was clean and the service was good. The food was quite overpriced for the quality. $16 for lasagna that could have been Stouffers. Extra for a salad at that price? The bread was good. It really is the pricing. If the price was lowered $3 on each entree, I certainly would have had a higher opinion of the place.

“American menu in country Mediterranean ambiance”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

This site used to be a Mexican restaurant, which is what the decor and architecture suggest. There are two levels, one at the street entrance and a second up a short flight of stairs. The upper level has quaint little alcoves with booths, so you feel you are in your own private space.

Since Bella Rosa is fairly new I think they are still polishing up their food and service. We stopped for lunch and had a shrimp Louis salad, ravioli and a side of fries. The Louis dressing was delicious and served on the side. The hard boiled eggs mentioned on the menu were missing so I pointed that out to the waitress. She looked surprised and went back to the kitchen to ask where they were. When she returned, I was informed that they were out of eggs that day! Second problem, while eating, I discovered several pieces of Romaine that were wilted and black--not very appetizing or healthy to say the least. I put them on the rim of the plate so the kitchen would notice.
The ravioli was quite good but arrived cold and we had to ask for it to be reheated. The catsup bottle was empty so we had to request another. So you can see what I mean by saying they are still a work in progress.
There are not many restaurants in the old part of downtown Jackson, so this one is worth a try if you are in town.
