“Golden days of Palm Springs revisited”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013 via mobile

This is our second time at Franks Place and it was well worth the return visit in spite of a couple of negatives.
We brought a group of 8 this time with the incentive that when in Palm Springs, one should experience the old time Palm Springs vibe. And what better place to do that but in the old Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez Indian Wells Hotel.
Even though it was the Sunday BEFORE the US Thanksgiving, the Xmas twinkle lights and Xmas trees were up. The fireplace was lit, mantle decorated and the ambience was perfect.
We made reservations a week before and were immediately sat at a large table with perfect view of Ted Herman big band and easy access to dance floor. But, the big band was so LOUD that conversation was impossible with anyone other than the person next to you. Also, it appeared the band may have had some new members? As a few times they had to restart the numbers due to miscues and errors.
Last year when we went on a Sunday evening in Dec, Frank DiSalvo sang for most of the 6-8 pm Sunday evening show. This visit however, altho he was in the lounge visiting and shaking hands with some guests, he only sang for 20 mins in the second set from about 730 - 750. The rest of the time, it was just the band playing or one of the two " guest singers" ...An older fellow and a woman. Both were quite good but lacked Frank's showmanship. The evening is advertised as "Ted Herman Big Band with Frank DiSalvo." ..no mention of other singers.
I was well aware of the $10 entertainment cover charge and had no problem with that BUT thought it would be for entertainment provided by Frank and the band...not The Band, two guests and a only 20 min set by Frank...a bit misleading IMHO.
Foodwise, I enjoyed my Frank's Pasta and the $32 bottle of Calif cab was good however once the server opened it and poured the first glass, he never returned to refill the glasses...and I waited plenty long with an empty glass to give him a chance as he was busy..maybe they need more servers.
A bus boy cleared our finished plates when two in our group were not finished...maybe I'm old school but I was taught to wait until all were finished before clearing dishes.
We will be back but likely not for dinner..instead will try Happy Hour on a Fri or Sat evening when Frank is advertised as the entertainment 600 -930 so we should have a better chance of getting more than 20 mins from him.

“Great venue for dancing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2013

We heard from the dance community in the area, that Frank's Place offers nightly entertainment and dancing on at least 2 evenings of the week. For Big Band and retro aficionados Sunday night is a fit. Be aware though, that there is a cover charge of $10, and you will still budget for a meal and/or drinks. Tuesday night is more budget friendly. A singer entertains karaoke style, there is no cover charge, and nobody minds if you while away the evening over a bottle of mineral water! The music is going back to the 60'w or 70's. So it's a lot of East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, some Nightclub Two Step, the occasional Rumba, and if you are lucky, a Salsa or two. Even non experienced dancers can venture on the floor to join the shuffling, bouncing or overtly smooching couples. Fun for people watching too.

“What an entertainer !!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013 via mobile

Went to Frank's place last Friday with 3 other couples. Stayed for Happy Hour and Frank's show. Food was OK, but Frank's 3 hr performance was truly amazing. He covered at least 12 artists from the 60s-80s, including his base if Frank Sinatra. All performances were superb. If you shut your eyes you would think it was the original singer. Well worth a visit.

“Great entertainment”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

Did not know about this show until we checked in. Frank DaSalvo is a fantastic musician and singer - singing the Sinatra era songs, and many others. Almost a 3 and a half hour, one man show, with only about a 20 minute break - we so enjoyed that our "one night stay" turned into three!! We watched the show on all three nights. Would have loved to stay for the Sunday night to see Frank sing with a 16-piece big band - will have to go back for that. Frank has such energy and we recommend all visitors to go and see the show. Well worth it.

“The best Frank Sinatra performer ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2013

I'm surprised this place doesn't have a million awesome reviews as it is often very busy with regulars who come back week after week (after week), locals, tourists, hotel guests and celebration groups (anniversaries, birthdays etc). Big and small round tables in a sunken lounge with photos of all the crooners.

Super friendly staff at ever turn - the hosts, the maitre d', the valet Mike, the bartender can't think of his name but he has his own band. But the important part is how wonderful Frank DiSalvo is. He is hands down the best Frank Sinatra style singer I've ever heard. He does the great standards and then moves on to cover those by Mel Torme, Andy Williams etc. Sunday nights during high season he is with a real big band and there is dancing. Thurs-Sat during high season (check their site) he sings with the original recorded tracks of Nelson Riddle orchestra and other bands, and then accompanies himself on guitar. He looks a good deal like Frank Sinatra in his late 50s.

A lot of people buy Frank's CDs and asks for their photo with him. He comes out into the audience with his cordless mic at the beginning and end of the show and shakes everyone's hands. You can see how much he loves what he does and how he loves celebrating this music night after night. I'm surprised Vegas hasn't pinched him from Palm Springs yet - get out and hear him while you can in Indian Wells before La Quinta, kind of just past the Nest but before Cliffhouse. Actually if you know Vicky's Lounge, it's right by there. I had a good salad, there are yummy looking Italian style pastas and traditional meat dishes to please retired folk. Happy hour, they offer a little snack bar and some drink specials so it pays to go early and stake out a good table, or reserve. I loved this place, and while I own in the area, I had rental guests so I chose to stay at few nights at the hotel, I saw the show twice, and had the pleasure of meeting Frank who is a really kind person.

I also dropped in to the open mic night with Rich and Poupee - what a cool crowd of LA pro's retired to the desert singing their hearts out with Rich's amazing piano playing. He can play all the standards by ear in any key.

My advice is don't miss this flashback in time. Call ahead to confirm times and a reservation. We went once for the big band night, and a) we were too late, and b) there were no tables.
