“Meh”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

Meh. And I'm speaking of the Imperial Beach location. The price is high for the quality of food served there, especially given the food context in which south San Diego finds itself: bomb-[--], cheap and amazing. Perhaps the high price for the prime real estate? I can understand that. It is, after all, located in a most EXCELLENT of locations to observe surfers and fishermen, all while sucking in the refreshing salt air. This idyllic space is being gastronomically underutilized.

“A pleasant surprise”
Reviewed August 18, 2012

I found the Tin Fish Imperial Beach by accident while driving around San Diego one day during a business trip. In short, the fish was fresh and delicious (try the fish tacos), the prices were reasonable and the atmosphere at the end if the Imperial Beach Pier couldn't be beat. We're heading to LA the end of October on a family vacation and are considering making a special trip. Bravo!

“Greasey, grimey, gross!”
Reviewed April 22, 2012

We heard The Tin Fish was good from so many people, but whoever told us this must have been talking about one of the other locations because this one is absolutely disgusting. There were birds walking into the open doors behind the building where there were boxes of food. Don't go here even if you think it looks really fun since it's on a pier.

“Nice view but pricey”
Reviewed April 16, 2012

The food was ok. But a little pricey. The view is fantastic. You can see downtown san diego. Mexico down south. And if your lucky, some dolphins and sea lions.

“Totally worth the walk on the pier”
Reviewed April 8, 2012

We found The Tin Fish by accident, but I highly recommend you try it intentionally, if you like a unique setting and great seafood. The restaurant is at the end of the Imperial Beach Pier, so the only way there is on foot, or sturdy wheelchair. We had our 5 kids, including one in a stroller and the trip to the end of the pier was bumpy as we walked past the local folks catching their own dinner. If you're walking, wear sneakers instead of sandals or flip-plops. This is a very casual place, exposed to the weather except for a small but comfortable dining room. The specials that day were on the fresh-caught swordfish, and two our party enjoyed that. Another had two very generously stuffed crispy fish tacos. The kids had fish and chips. All of the fish was tasted and highly approved by the reviewer. The sides are tasty, too, and include very good slaw and seasoned fries. Also on the menu: burgers and grill fare, plus breakfast items. They offer fountain soda, beer and bottled soft drinks, such as Snapple. There are tables outside and inside, and a TV with ESPN was on in the dining area. Clean restroom. Very friendly cashier. Order at the counter and they'll call your number. They are not fast but they don't rush you out either. And the view of the San Diego coastline is just spectacular. Great for a date or a family outing.
