Our new favorite getaway!

I knew from the first phone call, that this was THE place to stay. Denise was so very nice. My second call was answered by her son Matt. Now I knew this was the place! Both so kind and courteous. Matt handed me a key at check in and said we'd love the cabin. We sure did! Awesome view. Killer mattress. Spotless, new shower. Fridge and microwave. We chose the small unit, without kitchen. We can't wait to return. We are going to become regulars. Awesome 20 minute walk into the center of town. All in all...I felt very welcome. These are hosts who love what they do. It shows. Bad wifi, but who the heck cares?!!

This is a 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath cabin. 2 story. We had 3 couples that stayed here and it was just fine and since we were all family that was ok with only the 1 full bath, but if you're not family just note that you are all sharing that one bathroom. The half bath is on the main floor next to the kitchen. There is only ONE TV in this cabin which, again, depending on your preference may be just fine..we brought our iPads so we could watch movies on Netflix in our bedroom. WiFi is very good. There is plenty of hot water but wished the shower head was different...it could use a change since its old and the spray goes everywhere and the drain is a bit slow. Fully stocked with all the kitchen appliances you may need. Furniture was comfy although with 6 adults we also sat on dining room chairs when watching a football game. Does have central heat & air that works very well. It was very cool at night and early mornings so we had the heat on and the upstairs (which are the bedrooms & full bath) could get a bit warm & stuffy. There is no dishwasher in the cabin. Also there is no washer & dryer either in case you need them. It was a very nice cabin for the weekend and we enjoyed our stay, however the worse part of the whole cabin - like the name states - are the stairs up to the cabin!! The driveway is extremely (no joke!) steep so how you would manage that during the winter with snow and ice without a 4 wheel drive is beyond us....and there is no room to turn around so either way you go up you have to make sure you dont fall off the side or run into the wall.....and the steps going up to the cabin are steep and plenty!! Literally at times we (and we aren't THAT out of shape! HA) had to stop midway to catch our breath - and there is no hand rail to hold onto...and my brother's in-laws are elderly so that was tricky for them.....if you have any kind of health issue where you can't climb, are in a wheelchair, anything of that nature - this is NOT the cabin for you.

I stayed at this place when I was a kid with my parents and recently returned for a two night stay. The units are still very clean and well maintained. Each cabin has two units. I opted for the larger one with a kitchen and it was quite spacious. This was room 5A which was furthest from the main office - perhaps explaining why the WiFi was weak. However, this reminded me that I came to Idyllwild to get away!

The owners and their son have owned the property since 1979 and on the phone making a reservation and in person they charming and gracious.

A couple of things to note: They don't offer daily maid service - so nobody will stop by to make your bed and clean the bathroom. That's done after you check out. Second, the inn is a distance from the center of town. This offers you peace and quiet. But if you're looking for a place within walking distance of restaurants and shops, this probably isn't it. Actually, it's about a mile walk into town which isn't bad. But I wouldn't walk it at night after dinner on the dark mountain roads.

I definitely won't wait another 40 years to stay at Woodland Park Manor again :-)

We took our dog up to the mountains to enjoy a beautiful winter weekend in the snow. We stayed in the Fernwood Cabin right across the street from the Woodland Park Manor property. It was clean and very comfortable and we enjoyed watching the snow from the large sliding glass doors out to the deck. The fenced yard was perfect for our dog. The only problem was there was absolutely no internet connection nor any cell connection at Fernwood. I neglected to ask about this before I booked and it wasn't mentioned when I made the reservation. We were planning on spending a cozy weekend hiking and getting some work done remotely. Humber Park was closed due to the volume of snow (parking wasn't plowed) so we took the dog to the nature center which is a great option when it snows. The Woodland Park Manor has a very lovely location and management is great. Just make sure to ask about WIFI if you need it. Also, you will need a 4 wheel drive vehicle if it snows. Some driveways are very steep and not plowed.

Room tip: Not all cabins have WIFI

Stayed two nights with dog (golden retriever) in the "Cottage in the Woods". Small, 1 BR cottage down a gravel path from the inn itself. Quite private. Fireplace, heater, A/C, kitchen with utensils and stuff, outside patio with afternoon shade, all in the woods. Place has a swimming pool with nice deep end. Everything very clean and well maintained, yet our building was funky in a fun, interesting way. Our pup loved it. Would go again as a couple. About 1/2 mile out of town center to the NW.

Room tip: Looked like every room offered benefits. Cottage is if you want to be away from the center of the inn.

An absolute hidden gem. This place is beautiful - gorgeous cabins which have a mid century-ish feel from the outside yet rustic and cozy inside. Fireplace, a heated pool (rarity in Idyllwild), walking distance to town, free parking and dog friendly - what more can you ask for! It was a bit hot but the ceiling fan and window unit helped. They’re also thoughtful enough to keep a portable fan and heater in the closet of each unit.

We stayed in unit 1A which is near the entrance yet incredibly quiet. Each cabin is basically 2-units so you can rent both sides and have a big house style of place. We only used the larger side and though there were people in the unit next to us, we didn’t hear a peep. Our unit was large with 2 beds and a small but full kitchen.

I don’t think we will ever stay anywhere else - this place is perfect.
