“Great little place”
Reviewed January 2, 2008

We drove up from La Quinta for a nice Xmas dinner. Frankly, I am quite astonished at some of the recent reviews of this restaurant. This establishment is nothing like the place mentioned in one of the reviews. We had a truly first class meal in a lovely environment. The on site harpist was excellent. Strictly first rate.

“don't eat here”
Reviewed November 24, 2007

yesterday we ate at the bread basket and will now inform the health department of the unacceptable practices of this filthy place. we sent back our order three times, found a hair on one plate. the window was only about 10 inches from my face, and there was thick grime and dried fly stuck in window corner, no handycap bathroom, dangerous stairs, the kitchen had old dirty grease in most corners, and the owner said they haven't had time to clean. don't go!

“Delicious food, GREAT coffee, great service”
Reviewed March 28, 2006

After polling a few of the local shop owners we decided that we would/should dine at the Bread Basket. I am thankful we did. The wait was a little long (I guess popularity is a good sign) but the food was well worth it! I had the skillet (chicken fried steak, eggs, potatoes, country gravy) my wife had the French Toast which was made of apple bread. Good stuff! We will definitely be back again! Thank you.

“Homemade bread, really? Poor value”
Reviewed December 20, 2005

We were referred to the Bread Basket for breakfast and their homemade bread. Indeed, the first thing our waitress asked was: "would you like a bread basket?" Not "coffee?"

Well, when it arrived we found four pieces of hot bread; two regular sized pieces of something that was reminiscent of whole wheat wonder bread and an end piece and a half of some kind of doughy cranberry white bread. This was unlike any kind of homemade bread that we have ever had or seen. Totally forgettable.

To their credit, the eggs and hashbrowns were done right and tasty. The coffee was plentiful and weak, typical diner coffee.

Breakfast for two (eggs/hashbrowns, "bread basket", coffee) was $18 with tip. Expensive for what it was, even for a so called resort town.

There is better breakfast to be had in town.

“Not what it used to be!”
Reviewed September 21, 2005

The Bread Basket USED to be one of my favorite Idyllwild restaurants, but not since it changed ownership. The food was mediocre at best and the new owners have ruined my "favorites."
