“Great Inn in a Great Town!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2013

We stayed at this B&B with our 8 month old baby, and it couldn't have been nicer. John, the host, was very friendly, helpful, and very accommodating. The breakfasts were delicious, the location was great (walk about 5 minutes to town), and the rooms were spacious, clean, and welcoming.

I was on a business trip from LA to Palm Springs and had one night on my own dime. I decided to find a location to rest but enjoy the mountains. As a child I camped in Idyllwild but haven't been back since so I knew of no good places to stay. I counted on reviews from Tripadvisor and selected the Rainbow Inn. The reviewers were on target as the Inn was wonderful, restful, quiet and full of amenities. Windean was a terrific Innkeeper. I enjoyed the hammock in the backyard and the quiet appeal of inn. The Inn is in walking distance of the shops and restaurants. There was a large motorcycle club in town and I never heard their choppers roar. If you're in Idyllwild for hiking, cycling or in-between work duties stay at the Rainbow Inn.

Room Tip: While there is no fitness center there is a gym in the center (near the shops). I used the walking t...

We had high hopes based on what we had read about the Rainbow Inn. Our experience surpassed these hopes in every way. We had the largest room with a large jacuzzi tub. The breakfasts were creative and excellent. Idyllwild is beautiful and tranquil. Best of all was John, who was fun to talk to, full of great information and couldn't have been more helpful. He even drove us to a trailhead one morning so we could walk down the trail and back to the Inn. He's also a very talented photographer, and the Inn is filled with his exceptional photographs. We've stayed in many places with good service, but John really stands out. We look forward to returning.

Room Tip: We had the largest room, the Swan Lake Suite, with a large jacuzzi tub. Heaven!

What a great find we had a couples weekend and the host John does everything perfect, The slow combustion stove was exactly the same as one we installed in our home in Sydney 28 years ago and it brought back great memories. We will be back.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are 1st class you will not be disappointed.

The Rainbow Inn is delightful. Under John's direction the Inn is perfectly run. Smooth as silk service. Attention to detail is noted throughout the inn and surroundings. Townspeople rave about John and his attention to detail.
It is a pleasure to know that Vic and I will now have a "home away from home" whenever we can steal a day or two or three and the vacancy sign is "ON"!!!!!!!
I can't stop smiling.
You will love it.
Melanie

Room Tip: Love all the rooms -

The place is surrounded by pines and has a creek running by it. The Inn is of a new construction so every room is beautifully furnished. We had the Swan Lake room which is the biggest but I checked out all the rooms and they were all very nice. The best thing about the place was the host Jon. He was the most casual comfortable friendly inkeeper I have ever met.
Breakfast was supurb in the beautiful dinning room. I had a wonderful experience while staying there...I experienced my first earthquake. Several of us were standing on the massive second story deck when all of a sudden everything started shaking. I hollared "What do we do? Where do we go?" They all chuckled at this newbies response. I sam from the midwest so I had never experienced an earthquake so it was sort of a thrill.

Room Tip: They are all nice. It depends what type of bed you want. There are kings queens and one twin be...

We have stayed in a few bed and breakfast inns in the States but this one is by far the best. The property is very well presented and the 5 guest rooms are all individual. We stayed in the Strawberry Creek room which looked onto the back yard that went down to the creek (which didn't have very much water due to the time of year). The room had a queen bed, leather chairs, log fire, tv, dvd player, small fridge, book case, bathrobes and was so comfortable you didn't want to move out. There are books, dvd's and games to use. Breakfast in the morning was served at the dining table in the guest lounge by Jon. The food was delicious and it gave us time to get acquainted with the other guests. The lounge also have very comfy sofas with throws to cuddle into in front of the log fire on a cold winters evening. Just off the lounge was a very large deck with plenty of seating which was perfect after a mornings wandering round the village to relax with a book or to watch the woodpeckers and squirrels in the yard. The inn is very close to the village with its quaint shops and plenty of restaurants, but it is very dark in the evenings for walking back (may need a torch). This is a place we would definately recommend and will stay again when in Idyllwild.
