“An extraordinarily pleasant experience!”
Reviewed November 13, 2011

We stayed at this B&B following a matinee show at the Palm Springs Follies. The ambiance, comfort and breakfast exceeded our expectations. We will stay again if and when we return to Idyllwild.
Lon was an excellent host and we enjoyed John's displayed photograpy. John- please make greeting cards of some of the photos!

We spent a weekend at the inn. Lon is very helpful. We liked our rooms very much, very comfortable and cozy. The house where the Inn is located is very nice. The backyard is great and it has access to the creek. If you go with children check about the kind of bed, queen or king before choosing your room.
A good breakfast is included as well as wifi. There is a very extensive library with books and good movies that you can borrow and watch in your room’s DVD player.
Located in the woods and very close to the village. The only thing I did not like that much was that the shower in my room was very small, but anyway it was not that bad!

The Rainbow Inn B&B is the quintessential B&B experience! The hosts were so gracious and accomodating (and went out of their way to provide me with a gluten-free breakfast). The B&B is tastefully decorated with big over-sized sofas and chairs in the common living area and very comfortable beds in the rooms. I went to Idyllwild by myself to relax for a few days and was able to sit in the garden and read as well as walk into town for a nice meal. I would definitely stay here again either by myself or as a romantic getaway with my husband. BTW, the owners have just purchased a family-style lodge near town and will be updating and renovating it so they can open this summer (2011). I think it's called the Apple Blossom Inn.

My wife and I are from Michigan and were looking for a great place to stay in the mountains in order for our two year old to experience a snow filled weekend. After researching numerous places online, Rainbow Inn continued to top all the lists that we found....so, we booked a five day/four night stay in February. It was such a great place that we've decided to make this an annual trip.

We were nervous about having a two year old at the bed and breakfast, but Lon and John were both so welcoming that every morning when our two year old would wake up she would say, "Go...see Lon!"

The breakfasts were incredible (homemade muffins, fresh fruit, quiches, etc), and one morning Lon even made special pancakes for our daughter which she devoured. On the final morning, Lon even pushed the breakfast time up for us a little as we needed to get on the road early.

I tend to be a neat freak when it comes to rooms, but the rooms were extremely clean and well maintained. They also had a great DVD library complete with kids movies - which was a perfect way to end the day...watching a movie with our daughter in front of the fire.

If you are traveling with children I would recommend getting one of the rooms with a bathroom attached. If you can get the Strawberry Creek room, get it as it is towards the back of the house and slightly separated from the other guests. This provides a nice quiet retreat for early bedtimes - as it is far away from the common area and kitchen.

Behind the house was a very large area which was perfect for pulling our daughter around in the sled and building snowmen. The walk to town is short enough for an adult, but we ended up driving to town, as the walk ended up being a little long for our daughter.

The second morning we were there, about a foot of snow fell. After breakfast when we went out to our car, not only had the driveway been cleared, Lon and John had cleared the snow off of all the cars!

Things to watch out for (I hate to write anything negative, but feel that any good review should list a couple of things that could be improved):

1) The individual fridges in the room are small, which was no problem for us as we ate out for most of the meals. If you plan to bring/buy a lot of food though, consider bringing a small cooler. On the plus side...there is a small fridge in the room :)

2) For those of us who are tall...the showerhead was low. That being said, the fact that I had to pick on the showerhead height as a way to find something "negative" goes to show you how incredible the experience was.

3) If you are traveling here with a small child, have a bag ready as your child may get sick on the drive up. Once we got to the curvy roads around 5000 feet, our daughter got sick. When we arrived at the Rainbow Inn, however, Lon allowed us to use their washer and dryer to wash her clothes and car seat lining (which was in pretty bad shape after she got sick on it). Luckily, she felt 100% the next morning.

I can't recommend this place enough, as it was a vacation we will always remember!

Chad

We stayed in the swan room & loved the two person jacuzzi & fireplace. The bed was comfy and the linens were soft. I especially like the two large chairs by the fireplace. The town was walking distance & yet away from any traffic noise. Lon, one of the inn keepers, has a great sense of humor & keeps you entertained. Additionally, he makes a great breakfast! This was our first and definitely not our last time here.

My fiancee and I spent a romantic valentines day weekend at the Rainbow Inn. Lon and John took wonderful care of us! From the moment we got there we were made to feel at home, the breakfast was unique and delicious, everything about our stay was perfect. The Inn was gorgeous and very well appointed. We stayed in the strawberry creek room and it was very cozy with a nice fireplace. The Inn is located within a short walk from the center of town and all the cute shops. If you want to take your girlfriend or wife on a romantic getaway that won't break the bank - this is the place. We will definitely be staying again in the future as we plan to bring our entire family up and rent all 5 rooms! Thanks Lon and John for being such wonderful hosts!!

If you're headed to Idyllwild to celebrate an event or just a get-away, the best Bed and Breakfast is the Rainbow Inn! The facility is beautifully decorated with attention to detail that is matched with the hosts' attention to every detail to address the comfort of guests. Located on Strawberry Creek, the Inn is an easy walk to the village by crossing the nearby bridge. Each of the rooms is well-appointed, and the common lounge area is a beautiful alternative to the rooms. The lounge, dining and all rooms are on the second floor with access to a lovely deck area overlooking the grounds and creek. This will remain our first choice for return visits to Idyllwild.
