My wife and I along with my adult daughter and her friend dined at Shades Restaurant on a February evening. In February, the view is not very good because it's dark. But during the day, the view from this restaurant is fabulous so I expect that the view during a summer meal here would also be fabulous. Our evening didn't start out well because the first two bottles of wine I selected from the iPAD wine list were out of stock. When the third wine I selected, a 2007 California cabernet , was presented it was a 2009. You would think the reason a restaurant would use an iPad based wine list would be to avoid this situation. We took the 2009 and it was ok. The 2007 would have been better. In addition, there was a one man band playing in the adjacent bar. While he was very good, he was loud. So loud that the people at the next table next were using their outdoor voices to carry on a conversation. When our party started using our softball voices to converse, the combination must have been very loud. Even when the band guy took a break, the sound track was still quite loud. So it was loud, their wine list was inaccurate and the prices reflect an ocean view that's not available in February. But the quality of their food over came all that. We started with the cheese and charcuterie course. We selected 5 of each and the variety and quality of each was outstanding. The nuts, chutney and crackers served with the cheese and charcuterie course were very good. For our entrees, we ordered small. Three of us order the Kobe beef burger and the fourth ordered the beef filet all of which were excellent. Service was good but the noise level made it difficult to commutate. Food was excellent. We will return when we can enjoy a view with our meal.
